Should write something, but am v sleepy.

Have had a lovely birthday - went to Scarborough (Impish Girl - the middle one - is in a play there), so we saw that last night and then had a day in Scarborough today, and it was lovely and sunny. :)

Had a very lazy evening with a bath and telly and a v nice G&T (Ophir).

Also many thanks to ppl for birthday messages. <3 <3 <3
elisi: Edwin and Charles (Dune)
Thank you to everyone for the birthday greetings! ♥ I think I responded to all of them, but if I missed one, poke me.

I had a lovely day, got some lovely presents, one of which was cinema tickets to see Dune. (Insert Squee!!) We went all three of us (thankfully the schools had an inset day on Friday) so Darcy, the Cherub & I all watched it in IMAX! Not cheap, and possibly TOO big and loud, although considering the sheer scope I am not sorry we went for the biggest option possible. I have loved Dune for years and years (stumbled across it in the library as a teenager) and have been very excited for this movie, since it finally looked like someone was going to do it justice.

At some point I will write up my thoughts, but Dune is so... complex and layered that it's difficult to know where to start. And I think I need to see it again before having any kind of actual thoughts.

~~

Anyway, have a couple of good things!

And on that note, this is... *chef's kiss* (some swearing initially, just fyi). But just - even the COLOURS!

Today was my birthday, and it was a lovely day. <3

Darcy & I went out for the day (it's so weird being ELSEWHERE) and wandered round different streets and socially distanced in a cathedral and all the other things done when out for a day in another town.

And then we had a lengthy zoom meet with the two older ones who are both doing well at uni and generally everything was lovely and I feel very blessed.

And THEN we watched the last episode of Pride & Prejudice which is just fabulous and hilarious.

Hope you all had a good day too.

Happy Birthday to me. :)

I have taken the day off work and have very few plans - well, except for posting stuff.

First of all, some sort of actual update...

RL - it's a thing )

World's slowest Buffy re-watch )

Sidebar: For those that want Buffy fic, I have just started posting My Immortal to AO3, so if you want Buffy/Capt-Jack-is-the-Immortal that fits with ALLLLL the canon, now's your chance to jump on board. :) (One chapter per week.)

~

As well as Buffy, we are also watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. The girls watched it all some years ago when it was on Netflix and I caught enough episodes to really like it and know most of the characters, but never saw the ending (and have remained unspoiled!). But the youngest decided to buy the dvds with her birthday money, and we have been enjoying it immensely. It really is truly great storytelling - engaging characters, well-plotted, funny and touching and... *waves hands* Just great.

And as will surprise exactly no one, I am (still) complete Zuko trash.

~

There may have been more, but I can't remember.

I'll be back with Doctor Who fic, and a Good Omens guide (well, if I can get it knocked into shape). <3

Hello all.

I *think* I have managed to reply to all posts/messages. (If I have missed anyone, please let me know!)

Had a very lovely day yesterday - we went down to Cambridge to see Miss M, so after a lovely breakfast & opening cards/presents we were out of the door a little after 9am.

After having a wander around the town (and buying a couple of things) we went and had a picnic lunch which Darcy had prepared earlier. (As it was a cold and windy day, we had the picnic in Miss M's room.)

We then went to the Botanical Gardens, where it was Apple Day ([personal profile] the_royal_anna will know which this was a particular draw), but it was interesting (and very pretty) apart from that.

Had a nice 'tea' from Dominos and then set off back home. But twas a lovely day, with all my girls. ♥

And then this afternoon one of my oldest childhood friends came to visit with husband and children. The children are 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 and adorable, so it was a very nice afternoon. :)

It seems I love books )

Am also watching Victoria, but way behind (tend to watch episodes a day or two before the disappear off ITVPlayer). However it keeps being as wonderful as before, and honestly I could watch them forever. (Just watched the one where they go to France, so no spoilers beyond that please.)

Also watching The Good Place and have started on iZombie on Netflix (Dr Ravi is my new favourite everything). Not that they aren't all brilliant, and it does so many things I appreciate. <3

And that's all for now, should probably go interact with the world, even if most of my friends live in my computer. Thank you all for just being you. ♥

So, way back in autumn, Darcy asked me what I wanted for my 40th.

I said a new floor (preferably wooden!) for the dining room (as we have lived with The World's Ugliest Carpet ever since we moved in 10+ years ago). He did not like this answer, as that would mean A LOT OF WORK.

I said: fine, forget it.

However, after a while he decided that it was a good idea, and the floor has slowly become reality over the past months. He bought the wood, and tongue & grooved it, and eventually levelled the floor and laid the wood and then sanded it and waxed it. SO MUCH WORK.

But oh, it was worth it. This was what I came home to last Monday (the last image - he took pictures as he finished it):

So pretty... )

Just a quick thank you post to all you lovely people who have brightened my day with messages, posts & comments. ♥

Have had a very very nice day indeed, and will try to write a proper post tomorrow.

Apart from presents & family party, I also found time to watch the first episode of Class...

If something premiers on my birthday, I consider it a personal present. Esp. if it's a Doctor Who spin-off - see Torchwood, which also showed its first episodes on my birthday - TEN YEARS AGO. Damn, that makes me feel ANCIENT.

Anyway, Class has a much surer grip on what its mission is and what kind of show it is. (I adore Torchwood, but S1 was well rocky. *pets it*)

Anyway - recommended. And thank you again!
elisi: Edwin and Charles (11 and Clara)
*hugs LJ tightly*

Also, don't do that again. I don't cope well...

Will now get to my flist & comments. :)

Had a lovely afternoon/evening - went out shopping w/birthday money/vouchers and got a lovely burgundy winter coat (SO WARM) which I've needed for years.

Then went round to my in-laws and had a v. nice time with all the family, and got more cards, a beautiful bracelet with blue stones, Ferrero Rocher and a bit more money. There were lots of cute kids and pizzas and a birthday cake and good company. :)

ETA: Also Happy Belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] a_phoenixdragon! I never realised your birthday was on Back to the Future Day!! Hope it was awesome.

♥ ♥ ♥

LJ is still not working for me. At all. Like, I can't even get the status page up.

Since part of my plans for today were to catch up on all comments, that's a bit of a bummer. :( Plus I can't see any birthday wishes. (Presuming there are any! But I know that other people are more organised than I am.) I WILL get to them, promise. When LJ will let me back.

I was also going to post another chapter of George today, so am hoping very much that LJ will come back before tonight...

(If I manage to write any meta, I'll just crosspost.)

Many thanks to [personal profile] promethia_tenk, [personal profile] merrymaia, [personal profile] kathyh, [personal profile] pfeifferpack and [personal profile] kerkevik_2014 for the birthday wishes. <3

So far I've got a new pair of slippers, Mad Max: Fury Road - never saw it in the cinema! :( - and Barnaby (!!!!!) (my mother owns an ancient copy, and I grew up with it, but now I have my own!) and some lovely cards from my co-workers.

I think there'll be a family 'do thing tonight... (I share my birthday with my sister-in-law <3)

Sorry if I sound a bit scattered, am not feeling 100%.

*hugs flist*

Just a quick post to say thank you for all the birthday greetings this morning!

Am off to work, and then going to York for a birthday treat (staying overnight! And no children!), so won't be back here until tomorrow.

Until then, lots of love to you all.

Just a little update... Thank you to everyone who sent birthday wishes (by snail mail, or electronically) as well as all the lovely wishes on my flist and in comments & messages. ♥ ♥ ♥

I had a very nice birthday, going out for lunch with younger s-i-l (who shares my birthday) and then I had a lovely evening at home, with an evening meal courtesy of Sainsbury's and watching Iron Man 3, which was thoroughly enjoyable. I also (finally) am curious to see Avengers thanks to the fact that whatever happened gives Tony Stark panic attacks. :) (Why yes, I rather loved it. As in, all of it.)

And here is a list of what I posted, if anyone missed it/wants to catch up (I never stop hoping...). The Who fics about 1000 words each. The AtS one regular chapter length. The icons are, well, icons:

When Amy Met the Master.

Divided Destiny. Chapter 6.

Five Ways Jack Didn't Meet the Doctor's Wife. Part 1: It’s Called Marriage.

37 icons.

Enjoy! <3 Worked late tonight, so am rather sleepy now...

First one! For ages I wondered if I could somehow tie this vignette into my River-meets-the-Master story, but it shall have to just stand alone.

Summary: The Doctor drops the Master off at the Ponds' for five minutes. Things do not progress as planned.
Setting: Between 'The Widow etc' and 'The Dalek Asylum'
Characters: Amy, Rory, the Doctor, the Master.
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 1000 approx
Feedback: Go on, go on, go on, go on...

For the past few years I've had an eMac, and - much as I've loved it - it's old and rickety and slow, and I've needed something new(er) for a long time...

So, as Darcy will be away on my birthday (a little over a week away), I got my present early! I am now the owner of a Mac Mini and a wide black monitor and all in all it's all very shiny and wonderful. Youtube vids will play properly and fannish vids are big and gorgeous. And (because Apple is a marvel) Darcy could basically just hook up the two machines and transfer everything. Every file, every bookmark - everything is exactly the same, except faster and bigger and better. This is definitely one of the Best Presents Ever!

<3

ETA: Knew there were things I was forgetting!

1) Watched Prometheus last night. It was... pretty much exactly like the Honest Trailer (major spoilers), but I'm happy to have seen it all the same. 'Twas very well made, even if it didn't make a lick of sense.

2) Watched Merlin tonight, which was Merlin and good entertainment. I'm not sure what the episode was called, but it COULD have been subtitled 'The Army of Shirtless Men'. It's not the reason I watch, but it's nice all the same. *g* Oh and I ADORED
Mordred. His ambiguity *really* worked for me, as did the actor.

Just a quick post to say that I've had a LOVELY birthday and am now very sleepy. I was totally intending to post stuff (vid recs, a ficlet, a meta-picture thing), but it'll have to wait until tomorrow. or, you know, whenever... (Busy life is busy.)

Also thank you to everyone for messages/(e-)cards/birthday posts/etc, you truly brightened my day! *hugs everyone*

OK, one vid rec:

Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better).

Summary: The Doctor and River battle it out, in song. Extreme silliness ensues. (Spoilers for everything.)

I also got S2 of Torchwood!!!! I was idly looking through Amazon and discovered that it was on sale, so pointed my mother in its direction. *is sneaky* Now I only need CoE and I've got 'em ALL! And CoE is cheap! \o/

In other news half term has started, so don't know how much I'll be around... Add that to the fact that Darcy's been at home for the past two weeks, having caught a collection of the most stubborn bugs on the planet, and I'm going just a tiny little bit insane from not getting any time to myself. (And my parents are arriving on Friday for a week! *hides*) I'm also blaming this for my inability to write. Well, there's also the fact that writing this *particular* story is like pulling teeth, and I have no idea why. I love the idea and have had it all worked out for ages. *is frustrated*

But - I didn't mean to complain. I have SHINY DVDs, and I think tonight I'll try to get Darcy to agree to watch 'Something Borrowed' because I need something fun and brilliant. :)
