I almost said I don't know how to describe this, but that would be wrong - it's poetry, quite literally.

Technically I guess it's fic, since it's set within the Buffy 'verse, but it can easily be read with no knowledge of anything Buffy related - just two former lovers, meeting again many years later, snippets of life alluded to, joys and sorrows and time passing. And it's poetry.

It's Easy to be Noble (when you're not) in Constantinople

Summary: It's that blue-haired meeting in Istanbul, mentioned in 'New Moon Rising'; only they're in Italy, and it's twenty years to the day after the laundry room scene from 'Hush'.

Kerk wrote a tiny little ficlet (a drabble & a half), and it's an exquisite and beautiful look at Gunn after the fade-to-black in Not Fade Away:

Happiness is a Warm Gunn

If you can help out [personal profile] a_phoenixdragon she could really, really use it right now!! (Follow link for more)

So, today is [personal profile] kerkevik_2014/[personal profile] kerk_hiraeth's birthday. He's going through a pretty rough patch at the moment, so I wondered how to cheer him. Well, he has written a LOT of fic, but sadly does not have a lot of readers - most of his stuff is drabbles/short fic, and he has a very pared down, almost poetic style.

I've pulled out a few pieces for you to try - he mainly writes about Buffy characters, and mostly in his own 'verses (he has many! And many OCs. And a lot of femslash). I am trying to get him to set up an AO3 account, because I think he needs a bigger audience, and also it would be useful for readers to have the stories in chronological order (something not easy on LJ/DW). Individual pieces have notes, so excuse the lack of introduction here.

Waterloo Sunset Angel/Nina drabble

Have You Ever Seen the Rain? Spike & Illyria drabble.

Like Seeing Your Very Own Self Looking Back At You Tara & Lisa, 200 words.

Casablanca Buffy & Faith, 200 words.

Please go read & leave some feedback, I think that would be the best present. (If you want more, just follow the links on the posts or on the sidebar.)

Have tons of comments to reply to, I'll get there at some point. Twas a busy weekend, sorry.

ETA: Oh, and I watched episode 1 of A Very English Scandal.

Interesting interview with RTD here:

Russell T Davies: “Living as a gay man is a political act”
A Very English Scandal: the former Doctor Who writer on hate mail, two decades of writing gay characters – and adapting the Jeremy Thorpe affair for the BBC.

So [for long unimportant explanations] I was looking through old LJ entries, and came across one from the 13th of May 2006. Amongst other things I wrote:

A Doctor Who question: Was last week's episode *important*? We missed it what with being in London (specifically I think we were on the tube at the time) and then for some annoying reason it didn't show up on replay! *grumblegrumblegrumble* Anyway - any major plot developments that I should be aware of?
Here are some of the replies:

Was last week's Who important? Erm...no, not really. It just had the Doctor falling for Mme de Pompadour and abandoning Rose and Mickey on a starship 3,000 years into the future without a moment's hesitation.

Was it important

Of course it was important! Was "Fool for Love" *important*? Was "Darla" *important*?

It was just beautiful and heartbreaking and...it very nearly broke fandom.

I have last week's Doctor Who on tape and can send it to you if you like? Then you can make up your own mind. :)

Looking back, I DO remember all the furore over The Girl In The Fireplace (all the Rose fans were outraged, I was thrilled because the Doctor got laid...). But it's disappeared in the distance, blending into the canon of the show. The issues of *now* are so very different.

Also, the fact that someone had TAPED it, and POSTED IT TO ME, is so adorably quaint that I am all aflail.

ETA: OK, so I ended up having to find & watch this:

And then feeling sad that it's so old that it doesn't include all the Ten/Liz I snogging... Also, RTD cast Tennant when he was Casanova, what did people expect? ;)

But we watched Attack the Block tonight (it's on youtube!) so am full of feels about John Boyega and Jodie Whittaker.

Hope you all have a very Happy New Year and that 2018 will somehow be an improvement...

I wish I could think of what to say, and there are endless articles extolling Buffy's virtues (which are all good, but none quite reflect ME). I guess above all she gave me fandom, fic, meta, all you lot... ♥

ETA: Oh, and if anyone's curious, here is My Buffy History. :)

[personal profile] kerkevik_2014 is offering to write fic for donations for [personal profile] a_phoenixdragon's Go Fund Me

His posts are here on DW and here on LJ.

Re. fandoms then I say just ask, but certainly Buffy, Angel, Doctor Who, Torcwhood, Star Wars, Star Trek etc. :)

[personal profile] a_phoenixdragon still needs help!

Her GoFundMe is here, so if anyone can spare a penny or two (or more) that would be great.

I can't imagine picking up my family and moving cross country, with no safety net, on the hope and belief that surely tomorrow will be better than today. I hope and pray that everything will work out for them. So please help if you can. I'm sure every little contribution will make a difference.

Kathy - thank you so much for the lovely card!

And [personal profile] owlboy - your parcel got here!! Actually it got here a while ago. I'm not sure WHEN as I found it in the back of the wardrobe with all the Christmas presents, and asked Darcy what that parcel was I'd never seen it before. And he shrugged, so I pulled it out and omg it was yours!!! Thank you SO MUCH I shall wrap it and put it under the tree for her. :D

ETA: Also many thanks to [personal profile] hobbituk - the Cherub loves the card and wonders how you made it.

And [personal profile] the_royal_anna - just seeing your beautiful handwriting is enough to make me smile, and the little present was delightful. Thank you. ♥
