I am... curious and excited. It's been 10 years since he was in charge it'll be interesting to see how he's changed (or not).
Re. the whole Timeless Child stuff then I'm wondering if it'll become something like the 'human mother' thing that was just NEVER mentioned again. That'd be nice. *g*
I detest what Chibnall has done, but there were things about RTD that bothered me. We'll see. I trust him to handle the 2023 Anniversary better than CC though.
I'm just excited to be excited. I've kinda forgotten how to be excited about Doctor Who... And it's been 10 years since RTD was in charge, it'll be interesting to see how he's changed.
Took me some time, and he wasn't entirely responsible, but his previous tenure was largely responsible for me ceasing to think of myself as a Doctor Who fan as I cannot find the joy I used to have in the old show anymore.
Had this conversation earlier on facebook, so I don't want to go over that again, but it's just become another show to me; take or leave it, liking odd stories, but no longer really caring what happens to it.
I miss my show, and him coming back means any hopes I might have had that something better was still possible are gone.
Still have The Ponds and they're first season; Blink, River Song & the Library eps, but none of them feel like Doctor Who to me and, when someone I like isn't present, I don't feel anything if I miss new stories.
Silly thing to say, but it feels a little like grieving.
Took me some time, and he wasn't entirely responsible, but his previous tenure was largely responsible for me ceasing to think of myself as a Doctor Who fan as I cannot find the joy I used to have in the old show anymore. :( He is... well, very much himself in whatever he does. I am curios to see what he does next, but sort of mostly see him as someone who will hopefully patch the show back together somewhat and then hand it on. Hope you can carry on ignoring it and hopefully re-discover some of the old joy.
but it's just become another show to me; take or leave it, liking odd stories, but no longer really caring what happens to it. I'm sort of on the opposite trajectory. I have not really enjoyed Chibnall's take, but I am invested in the overall thing and hope it'll get back on its feet. Because the core of it matters, in this world of Marvel superhero movies, where it's all about punching the bad guy.
I miss my show, and him coming back means any hopes I might have had that something better was still possible are gone. I can't imagine he'll stay for long, tbh. Here's to hoping he is already looking for someone not-white or not-male to take over.
Still have The Ponds and they're first season; Blink, River Song & the Library eps, but none of them feel like Doctor Who to me and, when someone I like isn't present, I don't feel anything if I miss new stories. To be fair, the last couple of seasons you really haven't missed anything...
Silly thing to say, but it feels a little like grieving. I think it's a very accurate way of phrasing it. Falling for a show is almost like falling in love, so I guess falling out of love conforms to that too.
I'm actually doing a re-watch of Doctor Who at the moment, have made my way to season 3 and I don't mind getting Davies back as a showrunner. Between him and Moffat, I preferred Moffat way of telling stories, but there is plenty of good stories and episodes in Davies first run as well. In general I am just excited for someone else than Chibnall, I don’t think he was the best choice for Doctor Who.
I'm actually doing a re-watch of Doctor Who at the moment, have made my way to season 3 Same here! :D It's the world's slowest re-watch, but it's been interesting. Mind you, we skipped the end of S2 (I am watching with the youngest, who has just turned 16) and she found Ten/Rose increasingly hard to cope with. However Martha is awesome, so all is well.
I don't mind getting Davies back as a showrunner. Between him and Moffat, I preferred Moffat way of telling stories, but there is plenty of good stories and episodes in Davies first run as well. I am mostly curious as to what he'll do differently now. Obviously Moffat's my favourite, but also Moffat was so much work and I'm not sure I have the energy for that again. (At least not yet.)
In general I am just excited for someone else than Chibnall, I don’t think he was the best choice for Doctor Who. I STILL don't understand where it all went wrong. He basically ran S1-2 of Torchwood, he is a competent writer, he loves the show and yet... *hands* It's very strange. Anyway, here's to the future!
When I saw his name trending on Reddit, my first thought was "oh no, did he die?" Because I never would have guessed this.
Not sure yet what I think about it... On one hand, at least it won't be boring. On the other, this feels uncomfortably like an olive branch to the people who bashed Whitaker and Capaldi :/

Not sure yet what I think about it... On one hand, at least it won't be boring. On the other, this feels uncomfortably like an olive branch to the people who bashed Whitaker and Capaldi :/ Well it's VERY much the safe choice. However I don't think the NotMyDoctor crowd will be happy either. It seems everyone has caught collective amnesia of how much he was hated back in the day.
Oh wow. Huh! I might actually start watching again.
I petered out over the course of the Moffatt era. I liked 11 well enough, especially the very first season, and I enjoyed the mystery of Clara - though not the resolution - but ugh I was not a fan of 12. Tried again with 13 but it just did not grab my interest at all.
My favorite part of the RTD era, Donna, is also a reason to be wary. But I'd rather love characters and be sad about what happens to them then hate characters (12 era) or be indifferent (13 era).

Tried again with 13 but it just did not grab my interest at all. 13 was bizarrely dull. However I would recommend S10 (12's last one). He mellowed as time went on and S10 is one of my alltime favourites. If I had to choose between S5 and S10 I don't know that I could do it. /my two cents
My favorite part of the RTD era, Donna, is also a reason to be wary. But I'd rather love characters and be sad about what happens to them then hate characters (12 era) or be indifferent (13 era). The Donna era was indeed amazing (and her fate terrible). But Ten was best with Donna, no doubt about it. Here's to hoping for another iconic TARDIS Team. (This is a huge reason for the S10 love. The Twelve-Bill-Nardole dynamic is just ♥ Proper friendship, and delightful interactions.) (OK, I'll shut up now. *g*)
Still processing this. I liked Rusty well enough, and will be forever grateful to him for bringing the show back, but I went on to love Moffat so much more (I would be giddily dancing about the office had that been the news). I mean, didn't Rusty say at some point in the not-so-distant past that he wouldn't consider coming back to Who, or was that just him saying he wouldn't write for Who?
Moff definitely said that he tried repeatedly to get Rusty to write an episode during his reign and Rusty always begged off. I mean, reading A Writer's Tale, I'm a bit shocked he's come around to doing it again--it sounded like pure hell. Rewarding, but hell.
But then, it really has been a good long while at this point. Maybe he just needed a decade or so off.
But, when you have some time (I saw your latest post, hope things all turn out fine and that things calm down a bit) I'd love your thoughts. Literally no rush, he won't take over until 2023! ;)
(Because whatever important thing the Doctor is doing... IT COULD ALWAYS BE MORE IMPORTANT.) LOL. And yes. :D
You have been absent lately; here, emails, everything. Is everything all right? I'm okay, it's just been The Busy Time of Year at work. Mid-August to mid-late-September are always the same. I'll be back soon!
