Took me some time, and he wasn't entirely responsible, but his previous tenure was largely responsible for me ceasing to think of myself as a Doctor Who fan as I cannot find the joy I used to have in the old show anymore. :( He is... well, very much himself in whatever he does. I am curios to see what he does next, but sort of mostly see him as someone who will hopefully patch the show back together somewhat and then hand it on. Hope you can carry on ignoring it and hopefully re-discover some of the old joy.
but it's just become another show to me; take or leave it, liking odd stories, but no longer really caring what happens to it. I'm sort of on the opposite trajectory. I have not really enjoyed Chibnall's take, but I am invested in the overall thing and hope it'll get back on its feet. Because the core of it matters, in this world of Marvel superhero movies, where it's all about punching the bad guy.
I miss my show, and him coming back means any hopes I might have had that something better was still possible are gone. I can't imagine he'll stay for long, tbh. Here's to hoping he is already looking for someone not-white or not-male to take over.
Still have The Ponds and they're first season; Blink, River Song & the Library eps, but none of them feel like Doctor Who to me and, when someone I like isn't present, I don't feel anything if I miss new stories. To be fair, the last couple of seasons you really haven't missed anything...
Silly thing to say, but it feels a little like grieving. I think it's a very accurate way of phrasing it. Falling for a show is almost like falling in love, so I guess falling out of love conforms to that too.
