A couple of petitions
23 July 2025 03:13 pmUK peeps: Pregnancy Loss Isn’t a Police Matter — Demand Respect and Dignity for Women
The NPCC has introduced new policies advising police officers to search women’s homes for abortion drugs and check their phones for menstrual cycle tracking apps after unexpected pregnancy loss.
^what in the American politics is this??
~
EVERYONE: Brazil: Stop the 'devastation bill'
Brazil's Congress just passed the most destructive anti-environmental bill in Brazilian history.
3,000 territories – including more than one third of all Indigenous lands – are losing the legal protections that have fended off full-scale exploitation for decades.
It's open season on the Amazon, and the Minister of the Environment herself said it's a 'death blow' to Brazil's climate ambitions.
But President Lula can veto this 'devastation bill'. He is working to make Brazil a global leader, which means his international image matters – he will listen to our voices.
(One day I will do a proper update. But alas, that day hasn't arrived yet.)

The Economist:
President Trump’s mindless tariffs will cause economic havoc
But the rest of the world can limit the damage
The Bulwark:
The American Age Is Over
Emergency Triad: The United States commits imperial suicide.
The quote that really stood out to me:
Europeans are moving ahead with their own security plans because they realize, as a French minister put it, “We cannot leave the security of Europe in the hands of voters in Wisconsin every four years.” He was right.
BBC:
Trump tariffs: How island of penguins and seals ended up on list
38 degrees petition:
Don't sell off our NHS for a trade deal with Trump
Parliament Petitions:
Do not stop transgender people from receiving care in mainstream hospital wards
Regulate the brightness and type of vehicle headlights allowed

UK petition: Lift restrictions on prescribing puberty blockers to trans children.
We want the Government to reverse the restrictions it has introduced relating to the prescription of puberty blockers to children. The Government introduced legislation banning them from being prescribed by the private sector and NHS primary care to under 18s not already taking them.
More details
We believe the ban on puberty blockers has caused untold suffering to trans children in the UK, and the suffering must not be allowed to continue. We think it goes against article 8 of The United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child.
Under the convention, children have the right to their own identity – including their name, nationality and family relations. No one should take this away from them, but if this happens, the convention states that state parties must provide assistance and protection so children can quickly get their identity back.
PASS IT ON.

Petition for UK residents: Decriminalise Abortion
I am calling on the UK government to remove abortion from criminal law so that no pregnant person can be criminalised for procuring their own abortion.

Lovely article: I wear a white poppy because Remembrance Day’s staged fervour does little to honour my grandad
(The website for white poppies is here. I have worn a white poppy for the past few years, I like the idea behind them.)

Amid War in Ukraine, Nature Survives in Unexpected Ways
The war has brought suffering and devastation—and “war-wilding,” a surprising ray of hope.

I'm rubbish at updating, sorry. Not much has happened, but we are watching 'Ellis' - new detective show starring Sharon D Clarke, and it's properly good. Channel 5, but like, BBC production levels of writing & production.
We are also watching the new season of 'Shetland' - Darcy always loved the show, and I got caught up in the new season. The new female lead also really helps - the two main characters are now women. <3
(I have to suspend disbelief of course, because I have been to Shetland, and nothing ever happens - a stolen bicycle is front page news - but the look of it draws on all the 'British crime drama' vocabulary, so I can let it go. *g*)

ETA: Have a song by Zhou Shen. His voice is... out of this world.
I found an article. Have a snippet (lightly edited):
Zhou Shen sang the theme song "People Are _" for the movie "The Wandering Earth 2" in which human beings are not afraid of crisis, the spirit of facing fate, not being a trapped beast that is bound, not being a race that is easily defined, even if the light is faint, we still move forward.
ETA2: What the hell, have Big Fish as well. Because we all need beauty right now and this song is beauty that I wish to share with everyone.

This has been a week. Completely forgot to post a link to the chapter of 'All Breakages Must Be Paid For' I posted last week:
Chapter 15: Belonging
(Although the 5(?) people reading are probably just checking Ao3, but hey ho. Tumblr has a lot of very postivtive and encouraging posts about AUs and OCs. <3)

And finally have a petition:
Give Us Better Buses for England!
ETA: Don’t increase the income requirement for family visas to £38,700 (I may have posted this one before).

It's the weekend! \o/
19 May 2023 05:59 pmSo, you may or may not have heard that the Harry Potter movies are now on Netflix. My 17 year old brought this up last night, with the addendum (from the friend who had passed on the news to her): "Everyone knows that when a franchise ends up on Netflix it's dead. So that's some good news!"
The kids are alright. <3

Daily Dimash: The Weekend
This is a new song, created with Burak Yeter, which premiered at Dimash's recent concert in Antalya, Turkey. Fancam (so the quality isn't great), but it's a fun, bouncy song to get you in a weekend mood.
