This was Darcy and The Cherub (age 4 1/2) yesterday. (There are a lot of conversations like this in our house btw)

Darcy: You smell like Tuesday's tea!
The Cherub: No - I smell like sausages! (She loves sausages.)
[Three seconds later.]
The Cherub: No! I smell like a star!
Darcy: And what do stars smell like?
The Cherub: Twinkly!

:)

Was looking through old memes I'd done, and came across this one (sorry about not cutting, but...):

Claim Your Old British Man by jgurlpunkrck
Your Name
Your Age
Your Old British Man
You met...through the Make a Wish Foundation
The relationship ended...he left you for M. Thatcher-you killed yourself
Quiz created with MemeGen!

The Cherub was sat on my lap. Upon seeing the picture she pointed to the screen and said 'Daddy!'

Squeeeee!

OK, so my Darcy isn't a Colin Firth clone or anything, but there are certainly similarities... :D

(Oh and in case you're wondering I *am* Elizabeth Bennet!)

The Cerub (now 16 months old) is - apart from climing up everything and trying to eat anything she finds - learning quite a few words. We've had 'ma'/'mum' and 'dad' for quite a while, as well as 'bye'/'goo-bye' and 'ello' and - very unsusually - 'yes' (but not 'no'). She's very good at using 'yes' btw - whenever we tell her 'no!' she just grins widely and says 'Yes!'.

Anyway, I'm not going to list *all* her little words. Because there's one very important one that she's now (almost) mastered. In case you didn't know/had forgotten, two years ago Darcy gave me a big black (1 y.o.) cat for Christmas, and (obviously!) we named him 'Spike'. The Cherub has picked up on this - at first it was a v. cute 'Gaike!', but now she's got the hang of 'Bike' ('Sp' isn't easy to pronounce) and says it whenever she sees him. And I *know* that I'm unbearably sad, because I'm thrilled to bits that one of my baby's first words is 'Spike', but... it's just too awesome not to be happy about! :)

(Spike btw is very aptly named. He's a very good hunter, catching lots of mice and birds (and sometimes rats *shudder*), but he's also a complete softie. He *loves* people and Darcy frequently gets very annoyed with his patheticness... he is (quite literally!) a push-over!)

Will be going to Scotland today to see my new little newphew (who arrived yesterday morning)! MIL and FIL were always planning on going of course, but since it's Saturday today, and they have room in their car for all of us, they asked if we'd like to come along! Yay! *is very excited* SIL actually called yesterday afternoon and we had a lovely chat - she's was obviously utterly exhausted, but very, very happy. Her husband she said looked v. rough since they'd gone in on Wednesday morning and he'd not been home since. But he was over the moon of course and bouncing off the walls! :) I could also hear the baby - those tiny little whimpering sounds they make when they're teeny tiny and OMG!Cute! I think I melted on the spot...

Another good thing about a long drive (4 hours each way) is that I'll have lots of time for knitting! I knit? Well occasionally - and currently I'm trying to finish The Cherub's Christmas stocking. I made one for each of the others, so of course she needs one too, but Christmas kinda snuck up on me so I'm a bit behind - and knitting isn't easy with a baby around! Speaking of The Cherub, she's just learned to say 'Yay' and she keeps repeating it in her adorable little baby voice! *melts again* Actually it's more like 'yaaaaaaay' - and her 'wow' is this long slow 'whaaaooow'! (OK, I'll stop now...)

And finally before I run off, then re. the Buffy Comics [livejournal.com profile] st_salieri said it best: My post-Chosen Buffy...!

(I'm not sure comic books are a good medium for Joss - on a TV show there are a million restrictions, and input from all sorts of people. In a comic he can do what he wants and the artist is probably more than happy to do whatever whacky ideas he comes up with! Put me down as 'Sceptical until proven otherwise' for now.)

Re. Sponsored communities, this is what [livejournal.com profile] bradfitz had to say yesterday:

Love 'em, hate 'em, or really hate 'em..... sponsored communities aren't going away.
[...]
we're reading your comments, we're listening to what you have to say, and we're changing things based on your feedback.

So I guess that's sort of good news? If you want to keep up, go friend [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz 'cos they've been writing tons of posts. One that goes into fandom worries here and one about sponsored guidelines here. There's plenty more if you want to look them up!

~~~~~~~~~~
In completely unrelated news The Cherub took her first steps yesterday! So cute! And getting so big...
~~~~~~~~~~

Many birthdays:

Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] superplin (sorry I'm a day late!), [livejournal.com profile] missmurchison and [livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs. May you all have fabulous days! *hugs*

Sorry I've been absent, but RL is very busy. Yesterday the baby was baptised, which involved a party of course - and my parents came to stay over the weekend as well.

I've skimmed my flist, so I know what's been going on, but haven't had time to comment.

The baby has just started smiling properly! So cute. :)

And finally a happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] desoto_hia873. I wish you all the best for the next year!

Just stopping by briefly to say that I'm still around, but only just. Darcy started back at work Monday, so I'm currently trying to get a routine going etc. So sadly not much time for LJ... I do manage to look through my flist every day, but that's about it. Babies do take a lot of looking after - thankfully it's very enjoyable. :)

Oh - and I'll do a picture spam as soon as I can. Promise!
