This and that...

Will be going to Scotland today to see my new little newphew (who arrived yesterday morning)! MIL and FIL were always planning on going of course, but since it's Saturday today, and they have room in their car for all of us, they asked if we'd like to come along! Yay! *is very excited* SIL actually called yesterday afternoon and we had a lovely chat - she's was obviously utterly exhausted, but very, very happy. Her husband she said looked v. rough since they'd gone in on Wednesday morning and he'd not been home since. But he was over the moon of course and bouncing off the walls! :) I could also hear the baby - those tiny little whimpering sounds they make when they're teeny tiny and OMG!Cute! I think I melted on the spot...

Another good thing about a long drive (4 hours each way) is that I'll have lots of time for knitting! I knit? Well occasionally - and currently I'm trying to finish The Cherub's Christmas stocking. I made one for each of the others, so of course she needs one too, but Christmas kinda snuck up on me so I'm a bit behind - and knitting isn't easy with a baby around! Speaking of The Cherub, she's just learned to say 'Yay' and she keeps repeating it in her adorable little baby voice! *melts again* Actually it's more like 'yaaaaaaay' - and her 'wow' is this long slow 'whaaaooow'! (OK, I'll stop now...)

And finally before I run off, then re. the Buffy Comics [livejournal.com profile] st_salieri said it best: My post-Chosen Buffy...!

(I'm not sure comic books are a good medium for Joss - on a TV show there are a million restrictions, and input from all sorts of people. In a comic he can do what he wants and the artist is probably more than happy to do whatever whacky ideas he comes up with! Put me down as 'Sceptical until proven otherwise' for now.)

Agreed. We'll have to see. Enjoy your weekend.

Oh, I miss my baby brother now. But he's been talking for a while now. The little ones sound so very beautiful.

As for Season 8, I understand about the collaboration, but Joss tended to work more or less with supreme control when he wrote and directed and those seemed to turn out mostly okay. He will have other writers, too, and seems to have an editor who approves his stuff. As for post-Chosen Buffy, call me shallow, but when I read the "three Buffy's" retcon, I yahoo-ed for joy. I've refused to watch TGIQ for that very reason, and now I feel like I can watch it without dying of an anuerism. (I know, I'm too attached to certain thing). Having been in the Star Wars fandom since I was ten, retcons of this magnitude don't really bother me. As for Buffy and guns, I was just as surprised that she had those sheild-vapers, but this being Joss, I don't think it's going to last. At least, that's what the previous previews (in the EW article) hinted (http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1562057-5-5_3||427099|1_,00.html). Plus, I never got the impression that it was Buffy that hated guns so much as the writers. It felt sort of tacked on when they made that statement in AYW (of course, I thought the whole episode felt sort of tacked on). Oh, and I think Joss has done pretty well with his Astonishing X-men and the Serenity: Those Left Behind comics. I love how he's developed Cyclops and Emma Frost in AXM, and Those Left Behind had a scene so poignant that I thought it matched the "Light it" moment in Safe, the end of Jaynestown, all of Out of Gas (pretty much), the funeral from The Message, or Inara's breakdown in Heart of Gold.

In other words, excited!

Though I concede the point that Buffy's anti-gun stance is more widespread than I remember (silly me), I think almost all of those actions (except for AYW) can be explicable in a non-anti-gun-Buffy way. Cain is, as Mal says, a very bad person, so Buffy's destruction of his gun could be merely because he was going to use it badly. Same thing with the Initiative. As for Touched, I didn't think she broke it, just unloaded it. Oh, well, just another reason to rewatch it. Such a torture.

As for looking like Buffy, it looks more like Buffy than the cover art. And the costume, while it does surprise me, just makes me want to know from whence it comes. I don't know - maybe I'm too trusting, but I think they're going to be good.

Great point! I think the guns in this case aren't really guns, but shield disrupters (possibly magical) to destroy the protections around the fortress Buffy and the Slayettes are attacking. I don't see them really using them in combat.

Oooooh, there's nothing better than a new baby! Unless it's an adorable little Cherub. ;-)

Congrats! And have a wonderful trip!

As for the Buffy comics, I just read the articles and I'm definitely interested. Primarily because I'm curious to see if we'll get the big "Spike's alive!" reveal I've long been craving. One thing I'll say for JW...he's usually does his best work when people are most skeptical that he can really pull it off. If he stays true to form, it could be epic.

Or not. Time will tell. ;-)

Hello there! *waves madly* Having read your most recent post I'm happy to know that you're doing better - I'm *terrible* at commenting these days, sorry. I saw that you'd wished me happy birthday and just forgot to leave a comment and then suddenly it was way too late. Anyway, Thank You, it was very much appreciated!

You're welcome! And no need to apologize. You see how long it's taken me to respond to this one. ::hangs head::

Maybe we should agree together to be terrible at commenting and not feel guilty about it. (At least not too much. Heh.)

Hope you had a great Christmas!
