Happy Birthday

I hope you have a wonderful day with lots of presents and naked vampires a happy family. :)

So, what’s been happening? Not an awful lot. Darcy’s paternity leave is nearly finished and tomorrow my parents arrive for the weekend. *sigh* This is the downside of being an only child I guess - there is only me providing them with grandchildren. But I suppose I can cope with a weekend...

One of the more bothersome aspects of having a baby is all the health professionals who keep visiting. Of course it’s good that they look after you and make sure that everything is fine, but...

(Oh, I should probably mention that this are just my impressions, based on the people I’ve been in contact with. I don’t want to offend anyone!)

As already mentioned, midwives are very encouraging! Which I guess is part of the job, I just wish they wouldn’t keep doing it 10 days after the baby arrived.

But that’s not what I want to talk about. Since the girls are so big, I’d almost forgotten about Health Visitors. Their speciality is concern! The one I had when we lived in York was particularly bad. Every visit she would ask me (with accompanying *look*) if everything was OK? (Translation: Husband beating you up? Children running amok? Are you depressed? Don’t worry! You can tell me!) I know that she was just doing her job, but I began to get really annoyed by the fact that she appeared to assume that everyone had problems. I can’t count the times I’d say “I’m fine!” with what I hoped was a sincere smile on my face as I silently begged her to stop. If I *had* had any problems I certainly wouldn’t have told her!

OK, mini-rant over. I guess it’s just all those privacy issues coming up again.

Baby E is growing and being sweet and I’m sure she smiled back last night! :) (I know she’s only 14 days old, but you weren’t there! I smiled and she smiled back! Too cute for words.) I promise a pic spam as soon as we get some photos developed - she has tiny curls! ::tries to curb the squeeing::

Thankfully Darcy is as happy/excited/adoring as I am. Although he is slightly conflicted. His two main reactions are: ‘OMG cute baby!!! Lets have 5 more!’ and ‘OMG sexy slim wife!!! You should never be pregnant again!’ Heee! ;)

Hmm, I’m sure there were lots of things I meant to talk about and now I can’t remember any. So I guess I’ll say something about tv.

Watched ‘House’ last night, which was entertaining as always, although the whole Vogler business was a tad on the simplistic side. I wish they’d fleshed out the character a bit more, because he was just such a grade A bastard all round. Not that the dream at the beginning didn’t amuse me no end (and - surprise, surprise - brought back instant recollections of Parker with flowers and a tub of ice cream! Heh.).

Also very happy to see the return of QI. If it was possible I’d love to have little miniature versions of Alan Davies and Stephen Fry. *sigh* Stephen Fry attempting to explain the odd qualities of custard (you can walk on it) and sounding more dirty with every attempt was just priceless! :)

I was going to write something about ‘Supernanny’, but it’ll have to wait until another time. For now all I’ll say is, that how come some people appear to have no common sense? I was only 22 when I had Little Miss M, and I’d never had anything to do with babies or children (except for a bit of baby sitting, but putting a 3-year old to bed is hardly a parenting course). I’m far from a perfect mother, but my children are happy and mostly well-behaved. It’s hard work sometimes, but I can’t remember ever being completely clueless.

Anyway, it’s getting late, and I’ve spent a couple of days writing this, so I really ought to post!
