Good morning! Would you believe it, but I have FINALLY finished my Clara meta. I think I began talking about it at Christmas? I hereby declare the Meta Café open once more!

So far all my Clara meta has been mostly speculative, because we didn’t know who/what she was. This is the opposite. Trying to look at what we know, and how she works. What is her function within the ‘verse?

I’ve said that everything she is (or rather, everything in this meta) is summed up in my icon. So for the purposes of this post I made a bigger version with labels, so you can see what I mean. (Below the cut.) I shall go through all the different aspects one at a time. (Which is difficult because they’re all linked. But that’s Moffat Who for you. Everything is connected. Circles, circles everywhere.) Anyway - subheadings. Hope I've made it easy enough to follow. :)

The Doctor, The Eye Doctor and Me is written by Aboud Dandachi, a Syrian activist and refugee from the city of Homs, The book is a unique interpretation of Doctor Who as it marked its fiftieth anniversary, and a first-hand account of the most devastating period in Syria's modern history.

From the book:

The Doctor. The name he chose for himself, a promise he made.

'What was the promise?' Clara asks, trying to remind the Doctor of the values he set for himself those many years ago.

The Doctor’s promise: 'Never cruel or cowardly. Never give up, never give in.'

Which is a hell of a lot better than the mantra of the Eye Doctor’s supporters: 'Assad or we burn the country.'

I've been itching to vid this song ever since I heard it in one of Lexi's (LexLuvsMovies) videos, and this one is entirely based around the quote "I am the Doctor, and I am afraid.". Of course, the Doctor fears a lot of things: death, losing his friends, himself... all that great angsty stuff. It was good to vid, and idk, the second half of the song was always going to be a challenge for me seeing as it's dubstep, but I'm happy with the result nonetheless. Hope everyone enjoys!

I just... Eleven. The sheer depth and breath and scope of his arc and performance. He is the Doctor. (Spoilers up to and including Time of the Doctor.)

The meta café is back! (And no one's around. Ah well, that's life. *g*) Before we start, a little background for this particular meta:

A while ago I re-watched one of my favourite RTD-era vids of all time: hollywoodgrrl’s Marble House. It is utterly stunning visually and the editing is incredible (the first minute is... unlike anything else), but it is also extremely hardhitting, brutal and very manipulative. I even wrote meta on it once. Now I hadn’t watched it for ages - not since before S6 - and, as I watched, the most extraordinary thing happened: I didn’t understand it. I mean, at all. It was like it was asking what direction is yellow. Or what shape is ‘up’. It completely didn’t compute. Which puzzled me immensely (because it is an AWESOME vid and I pretty much know it by heart...). So I started thinking and analysing and this meta is the result. Well - this is how it started. Since then I’ve had a lot of other thoughts and it’s all been siphoned into this. But in essence: The Moff rebooted the show so thoroughly that it is a completely different thing. And he didn’t do it just by taking every single issue that RTD left him with, addressing it, and fixing it - any showrunner taking over would have to do this, because Ten, bless his cotton Timelord socks, had more issues than I can count - but by changing the basic vocabulary of the show [back to what it used to be]. S6 was at the heart of this, and the changes this season brought cannot be overestimated. Follow me under the cut, and I’ll explain what I mean.

(Btw, this is NOT a ‘RTD is awful, Moffat is God’, essay. I find what RTD did v. interesting, and will look at it in detail.)
