OK, here's the thing: Mark likes complex, complicated, morally grey characters. He doesn't mind what they do, or how unlikeable they might be, as long as they make sense.

He flips out into ALL CAPSLOCKS when it comes to unexpected plot developments, but just look at his posts on Five by Five, Sanctuary and The Yoko Factor - careful and considered, and barely a capital letter in sight. No ranting against, say, Buffy (who's plenty unlikeable in Sanctuary), or Angel or Spike later on. He found TYF uncomfortable as hell, but admired how clever it was. (Also see his reviews of Torchwood: Children of Earth - thoughtful, appreciative, full of admiration.)

So here's my prediction: Fool For Love will happen, and a) He won't see it coming (because he's not very imaginative in that sense) and b) William the Bloody Awful Poet will hit him like a two ton truck and he'll never recover. Remember what we know: Mark was very badly bullied [for not being masculine enough/being gay], and I cannot imagine that he won't identify with Spike, esp considering Spike's continual outsider status. He already likes Spike for the snark etc, but knowing that a lot of it is a front, armour to protect himself/make him fit in, as well as the way he'll go on to, continually, lay his heart at Buffy's feet... ALL THE FEELS YOU GUYS! *g* ("You're beneath me" <- Mark is NOT prepared.)

How it'll play out over the long run I'm not sure, but I think he might just love S6.

Apparently there's some new Spike comic out? I'm afraid my reaction is as follows:

Just in case you were wondering. (Sorry to be so negative, but not even Jane can tempt me back.)

It's a funny thing, but the comics are making me more fond of the show, more grateful for what we got and more willing to overlook the flaws. Anyway, today I went and re-read [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna's review of Damage, and then began looking through the comments and found this absolute gem by [livejournal.com profile] ascian3. Under cut, cause it's a bit long. (Italics at the start is ascian3 quoting from Anna's post btw.)

I'd like to think that I am humble enough not to bounce around like Andrew on crack, but... I can't help myself! Yesterday I posted my 'Asylum' review (v. long and rambly, you know how I get) and the lovely [livejournal.com profile] mrs_underhill rec'd it on the IDW forum.... and then Brian Lynch himself responded!!!!! (scroll down) Which was when my brain exploded. So I'll just be sitting over here in the corner slowly rocking back and forth trying to get this ridiculous permanent grin off my face.

And to leave you with something much more constructive, here is [livejournal.com profile] ruuger's theory that the world according to Spike is based on a hierarchy that goes something like this:

Women Spike likes
Spike
Women Spike doesn't like
Men
Xander

In this hierarchy Angel is a helium balloon tied to the lowest rung of the ladder and so how high he is depends on where the wind is blowing ;)
