elisi: (Thirteen)

Wait, what?

Doctor Who: Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall to leave in 2022

BOTH OF THEM?

omg who will take over from Chibnall???

(Sorry to see Jodie go, but it is what it is)

Funny that! On first viewing, I didn't even know who Sarah Parish or Catherine Tate were.:)

I've only seen analysis videos. Thirteen comes across as quirky, which was endearing in her first appearance in "The Woman Who Fell To Earth". I can't picture her being "dark" as her previous incarnations.

I'd like to see them keep a companion from the Thirteenth era to make it feel like an actual transition. Please let it be John Bishop. Yes. I did sneak a peek. I'm not sure what they've done with Yaz.

Of course! I just learned something new. Thanks.:)

Yeah. At that point Catherine Tate was just some random woman that entered the TARDIS in the most dramatic way possible. She got to do it twice!*Turn Left reference*

Such a shame that I missed that. They better allow Jodie a good exit at the very least. Same with Mandip Gill.

The only time I could identify with Ryan and Yaz was the racial conversation they had in the episode "Rosa". Too bad we can't have a companion go into the future to confirm that racism no longer exist!

Now that the Doctor's a woman, it was time to have a middle-aged white guy as the companion. Graham! come back! No, wait. He's on the bus.*tries to reference his profession, because I almost forget Yaz's*

Don't mind me, I'm just being dramatic.

These days, I usually refer to Catherine Tate as CT. I got to learn more about Sarah Parish through her guest appearance on Merlin and any other TV role she did with David Tennant.

I just need to catch up in the right order. I miss having cable TV.:(

I felt bad for Ryan being physically assaulted. It echoes Martha's experience, while being a maid. Except hers was verbal. It would be one reason he'd want to go home. The companions leaving in a low-key manner like in the old series was gladly welcomed. There were enough "death's"(Rory or Clara), non-death's (Bill) or whatever you want to call it in the Moffat era.

That's okay. I figured this conversation was either over or you had other things to do.:)

Indeed!

Bill Potts: Regency England. Bit more black than they show in the movies.
Twelfth Doctor: So was Jesus. History's a whitewash.

I don't remember the whole episode in it's entirety but the villain Krasko just reminded me of a stereotypical racist so and so. But that was probably the point. I was more annoyed by him than intimidated.

Technically Martha "died" in Turn Left. But that was reversed so I didn't pick on that. Clara is second to Donna for experiencing the TARDIS interior for the first time twice. It just felt like two different Clara's played by Jenna Coleman.

Eleventh Doctor,(to Clara): Victorian London. There was a governess who was really a barmaid, and we fought the Great Intelligence together. She died and it was my fault, and she was you.

Me: This is why DNA was invented.

River Song: When you run with the Doctor, it feels like it will never end. But however hard you try, you can't run for ever.

Usually if a companion says the F word "forever", it spells doom.

[identity profile] cynthia2015.livejournal.com 2021-08-24 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)

In your own time. In this instance, I like being surprised.:)

Racism is a psychological condition that needs to be extinct!*keeps hoping*

Okay. I was referring to the Parallel world in Turn Left, where the Doctor and Martha hadn't met.*hand waves*

I still wanted Victorian Clara. Not just to dress up or pretend to be like one, but that's just my opinion. I'm still disappointed that Bill wasn't from the 80's.

"LOL. Although he probably did test her DNA, and it came up identical".

Well, there goes that theory!:D

RTD went for the Unreliable Narrator - Trope for Rose's "death".

It's always sad when companions are forced to leave the Doctor. The anticipation of it all. Although Martha left on her own terms. That was bittersweet.

River's timeline was tricky to follow. At least for me it was. She had an interesting introduction though. A "companion" who knew information about the Doctor's future! Why hadn't it been done before?*refers to Old Who series*

[identity profile] cynthia2015.livejournal.com 2021-08-31 10:27 am (UTC)(link)

*surprised*

Meanwhile, no surprises for when an actors contract is up.

Companions from the past will probably need a cheat sheet for modern terminology. I think that's the phrase?

Moffat said if you try to make something "too futuristic", it will look outdated, when its that actual time period. He made Jack and River from the same time and added a sprinkle of mystery. We still don't know what Jack's real name is.

Overall, each modern companion had some skillset to offer, some more than others. We never saw Rose use her gymnastics skills. Instead she reminded us of being nonplussed about working in as shop.

CLARA: I'm fine. I take Year Seven for after school Tae Kwon Do.

Me: Okay. Prove it!

I'm asking too much, aren't I?

Anyway, I've only seen a few scenes from The Seventh Doctor era. So don't really know Mels(Melanie), well. Her name should have been mentioned by the Eleventh Doctor. That was a wasted opportunity.

BTW: Funny userpic.:)

[identity profile] cynthia2015.livejournal.com 2021-09-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)

In the Fourth Doctor era, there was Leela who came from a tribe of "regressed" humans and was quick to pick up on things.

Take a look at the movie: Back To The Future.*shrugs*

True. But I thought RTD was trying to find a link between swinging on a rope and Gymnastics as a Sport. Rose was sort of going through the motions*slight Buffy reference*

That sport should have been mentioned in regards to Danny Pink, who could do an impressive jump and roll over thingy (my made up term), in The Caretaker.

In Robot of Sherwood, Clara takes hold of a anachronistic halberd (a two handed pole weapon). That was her defence after the Doctor wondered what she was doing. I remember that scene because it just came out of no where, like her teaching career.

Oh, yes. Matt and his football. He had to give it up professionally after an injury.

MISSY: Well, team, who's going to help me hide his gee-tar?*talking of the Twelfth Doctor*

I think she means Peter Capaldi's guitar skills.:)

Seventh Doctor: Come on Ace, we've got work to do.*goes on hiatus for sixteen years*

"If you get a chance to watch, do!"

Hopefully, I will. I've only seen edited versions of a few episodes.:)

[identity profile] cynthia2015.livejournal.com 2021-09-21 06:30 am (UTC)(link)

Amy Pond: Is that a leather bikini?

Leela was underrated! Her eye colour even changed.;)

Twelfth Doctor: Right now, you could run faster and you could fight harder, you could jump higher than ever in your life.

Why was Danny called Rupert when he was a child?*shrugs*

I guess this is what fan fiction is for. Moffat was a teacher but he didn't particularly like it. He probably played with DW figures during lunch break.:)

I remember Peter Calpadi said he bumped into Matt Smith on set, who was on crutches.

Peter: What happened?!
Matt: This job, mate.

Doctor Who can get quite physical. Enter stunt doubles.

MISSY: I've got some requests. I want some new books, some toys, like a particle accelerator, a 3-D printer and a pony.

She had that piano already, they could have done a duet.

Big Finish. The title says it all.

No problem. I usually respond about a week at the latest. It just depends on if I have anything half-interesting to say.:)

[identity profile] cynthia2015.livejournal.com 2021-10-05 07:25 am (UTC)(link)

Leela was a savage. More of a stab first, ask questions later kind of woman.

Clara: Who asks for homework?

I guess Moffat decided to write what he knew, or at least what he didn't like about being a teacher.

Pregnant Amy: Can we not do the running thing?

My sentiments exactly. The reason stunt doubles are needed. If it was me, I'd have a stunt double for running. :D

Missy: I just had a clever idea.

Well, I'm going to pretend that's what happened off-screen.*thinks of naming Missy, Piano Fingers*

I don't listened to Big Finish either, but at least others have that option.

If Amy can wait, so can I.:)
