Wait, what?

That is a piece of news I am definitely reading with one crying and one laughing eye. I like Thirteen and was very meh on most of her episodes, unfortunately

Have been lowkey expecting this announcement since "Jodie is leaving after some 2022 specials" has been rumored for a few weeks... but very surprised that they just dropped this on twitter out of nowhere rather than announcing it at the hyped Comic Con panel they had four days ago.

I would've liked to see more of Jodie, but the most likely scenario was always gonna be Chibnall outlasting her rather than the other way around, so I'm content with this news. I just hope they make good use of the time they have left.

Your Chibnall icon sums it up pretty good.

Whoever does the media/PR these days is very bad at their job!

I think a lot of this does stem from Chibnall being very spoiler-averse, which I can understand (especially after those big leaks during the Moffat era) but the show has definitely had really bad promotion the past couple of years that extends well beyond that. Here's hoping this news actually ushers in a new era of the BBC actually *gasp* promoting one of their flagship programs!

Hmm, I find my main thought is, "Aww, damn, I would really like to see what someone else would do with Whittaker's Doctor."

I'd heard rumours of Jodie leaving, but then there are always rumours so I didn't pay any attention...

I had the same thought.

Same here. Let's hope this final run is awesome. (It's going to be all one long story, rather than standalones, so it'll finally be Chibnall playing to his strengths.)

I have been wondering since series 11 why they chose to do episodic stuff again when most of television has moved away from that model and Chibnall was manifestly better when telling arcs ( Broadchurch Series 1 , anyone?)

Also Chibnall does ensembles/group dynamics/character stuff very well and just... next to nothing.

Granted, I have not seen series 12 yet, but I have been wondering at the lack as well. It cannot be the number of characters (the cast of Torchwood and Broadchurch are both bigger), so why?

Annoyingly, my immediate, gut reaction was relief, and I think that about sums it up for this era.

I am rather worried they won't find anybody, tbh . . .
