Holiday is lovely (if a bit rainy) and I was very cheered by two further nominations in the Crossing Over Awards: One for 'Best Portrayal of Buffy' in 'My Immortal' and one for 'Best Portrayal of Other Character' - in this case Illyria in 'Between Canons'. *squees muchly*

(I can't tell you how much I needed something to cheer me. I love my family, but I am *so* ready for them all to go back to school tomorrow!)

In other, extremely happy news, The Immortal's (sweet) Revenge has been nominated in the Rogue Poet Awards! (Best slash - they don't have a category for crack-tastic cross-overs. *g*) Thank you, thank you, thank you to the kind person who nominated me, I am utterly overwhelmed!

Someone nominated Mrs Saxon's Diary at the Children of Time Awards! *does the Numfar Dance of Joy*

So I went and picked up a gorgeous banner, look! (Yes it has Jack on it, rather than Lucy, but they didn't have any with her, and he *does* feature in the story, so...)



I'm especially pleased because the fic is one I'm very proud of, and one that never got much love. THANK YOU SO MUCH mysterious nominator, I wish I knew who you are so I could thank you properly!

Firstly, my TW/DW fic 'What Torchwood needs, right now, is a Doctor!' (on LJ here, on the Teaspoon here) has been nominated in the Children of Time Awards! (There's a gazillion nominees, so I'm not going to win anything, but I hardly ever get nominated so I'm all a-squee! Thank you SO MUCH whoever was so kind as to put me forward!) ETA: Got myself a banner! :)



Then a few more Obama-related things, and then I swear I'll leave it all alone. Under the cut that gorgeous picture of the President and his Chief of Staff - mostly for my own sake. (ETA: obama_daily has a whole set of First Day at work photos.) It still makes me want to pinch my arm to check that I'm not dreaming. ( Oval Office is shiny. )

Andrew Sullivan wrote about the speech here, and had me nodding along.

And here is another one of those things that that makes me wonder if this whole thing isn't written by Aaron Sorkin: Remarks By The President Welcoming Senior Staff And Cabinet Secretaries - 1/21/09. ("Let me say it as simply as I can: Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency." He doesn't just say it - he's actively putting measures in place to enforce it.)

Anyway, I should probably point out that I do not agree with all of Obama's policies, and I'm sure he'll screw up sooner or later. Which reminds me that I ADORED Changefest '09 (The Daily Show). Too many hilarious things to quote, although I loved Jon's poor forlorn face w. the tooter! And anais_rhys put up the special end credits to The Daily Show from 1/19/09. (Not for Bush fans...)

Still, mockage can never be as funny as unintentional misuse of words... (Keep liquids far, FAR away. Best case ever of 'I don't think that means what you think it means'!)

Hello there! Sorry I'm not around much, but RL is rather busy right now I'm afraid - especially since we're at the beginning of a 2 week half term holiday! Expect me to overindulge now and again to keep sane!

Anyhoo, yesterday was fun! As you might remember, I'm following 'Arbitrar Of Quality's reviews of the Buffy verse as he posts his impressions. This weekend it was the turn of 'Primeval' (and later 'Restless' and 'To Shanshu in LA'). The threads started out fairly pedestrian, with people complaining about the season arch and Adam etc. Then someone pulled out this bit from the review:

Seriously, how many times are the good guys going to let Spike live for
no reason other than the actor has a contract? This is getting
ridiculous.

And off they went! (match + dynamite...) There are now... [checks]... 238 comments! Hee! So I spent a good deal of time yesterday aguing with people over Spike - why he was allowed to live, whether it was all the writers fault for being STUPID, or pandering to the audience etc etc. Since I never did this back in the day (what with not knowing that fandom existed) it felt like catching up on something. But - it wasn't just trying to get leopards to change their spots (because that just ain't going to happen, sadly), but something like a long battle for AOQ's opinion. And... we won! (see - told you I was twelve! *g*) he even responded to one of my comments, which makes me extra pleased:

That's really the rub, I think. After reading the discussions, you
guys have convinced me that *Buffy* doesn't see Spike as an immediate
threat, and it's not in her nature to kill monsters who aren't
immediate threats. Sme have pointed out that Spike not being able to
attttack humans doesn't mean that he's harmless. Which is true, but
Buffy is very direct-combat oriented, so that's how she sees things.
She's pretty much wrong, but it's consistent with the way she's been
characterized throughout the series so far.

I am soooooo sad! Hee!

But - I have another reason for happiness, in that 'It was... a hello' was nominated at the

in the categories Angel, Buffy and Hero/Heroine.

So - even though the house is messy yadda, yadda, yadda, I'm a happy bunny this morning! :)
