Gatsby trailer

This trailer is ridiculously gorgeous. (Watch it in full screen! Seriously.) The thing is, I don't expect the movie to be as brilliant as the trailer makes out, but that doesn't dent my appreciation one bit. This is... like a vid. A stunning, enchanting vid.

Oh wow, thanks for the link!

I should read this book again. I haven't read it since we were assigned it in high school.

Yes, yes! I think it may be his first Hollywood movie. Not sure.

He's aged well. In fact, I think I like him better now.

I have only seen him in fairly recent movies, and so when my dad tries to show me clips from when he was young, it is slightly confusing to me. What do you mean, he wasn't always old? :P I think it's less the actual age thing and more that he has such a big voice and tends to play scary authority figures these days.

The first trailer was enough to convince me I needed to read the book. It looks so exciting! :D

Now that I have read the book, this will not be another work of classic literature that I know about only via Baz Luhrmann (sp?). Unlike Romeo and Juliet. (I had some serious gaps in my high school lit classes. :P )

I just reread it over the summer. It's a pretty quick read!

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2012-12-29 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
It is surprisingly quick!

I reread the book recently, and I'm cautiously optimistic re: the movie.

I was reading casting spoilers, and realized I couldn't remember which character was Daisy. It's a pretty quick read, and I suspect I got more from the story and from the writing as an adult than I did at 15 or 16!

If you have an ereader I have it in kindle format (mobi) if you'd like. Pretty sure it's out of copyright so it's also here at project gutenberg.

Let me know! I can either email or upload somewhere

And I know what you mean about too many books being disorganized! It's the main reason I got a kindle actually.

I can't find my complete Shakespeare at the moment (I want to check something) so I know what you mean. And that book probably weighs more than my cousin's new baby; how do you even loose a book that size? It's a puzzle!

I heard about Ender's Game! Harrison Ford's involved. I need to reread that one too. OSC is as crazy as it gets IMO but I don't remember the crazy being as obnoxious in the earlier books. At least I hope not. I was pretty young when I read that one (and I loved that book so hard!), and I might have just missed it. Now I'm a little worried!

I've only seen a few random episodes of Merlin, but I just recently watched Hugo. He is a good actor for a child; this should be fun!

I read a least a couple of the sequels, and I've read a couple of his other books. I like the set up of his "Alvin Maker" series, and enjoyed the first couple books but dude just kept bringing more and more of the crazy. I tried to reread those a couple years ago and realized that there was more of the crazy even in the earlier books than I remembered. But I'm hoping you're right about Ender!

Oh so pretty. This is going to be good, and Leo is looking hot as always. Never read the book though, say bad American schooling. I would rather read this book in High School, than the Scarlett Letter. I know I am looking forward to this movie, Django unchained, Les Miserables, and the Hobbit. Though I don't which one will be more pretty Les Miserables or The Great Gatsby, though if I had to pick a time to live in it, would the the decendant era of the 1920's, at least then they had alot of places with electrity and indoor plumbing if you lived an urban area. Not mention much much safer drinking water, and you would have a very little chance of contacting chlorea. I think anyone who loves history and want's to live in another Era is just plumb crazy, I love History but sure as hell won't want to give up modern convience's and modern health system. People focus on the pretties of the era, and very much forget about the muck and manure.

Have toad,it that I was wondering how they'd do a movie of that book, condiering the last attempt with Robert Redford, Sam watterson, Mia farrow and Bruce dern was so ...dull? It's not exactly a book that lends itself well to filmmaking- very introspective and the lead character is passive, not active - the Toby McGuire character, not gatsby. But the trailer looks amazing as if they've turned it into. A suspense thriller...also I know it is being filmed in 3D which should be somewhat interesting.

Ack... That fourth word in first sentence should be admit, not. Easy to do this from iPad apparently.
