Squeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I'm sure you all know this by now, but Joss posted on Whendonesque!

See, the Buffyverse glows in my brain with a new, overreaching arc that will include the comics, Spike, and more. It's taking shape and soon you will know its name. And you will tremble.

Squeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: Yes I am also terrified of course, but right now the excitement is winning!

Super sekkrit message to [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan and [livejournal.com profile] kittyzams: Can you think of a name? Will e-mail at some point, but Darcy has taken over the iMac for the moment, so if you want to communicate use my LJ address.

And that entire post sent me into a panic. Why do I sense my ship is about to be sunk? And why do I still care? It's been years. And yet, I just kind of want him to leave it alone. Yeah, I'm aware that I'm crazy.

[identity profile] swsa.livejournal.com 2005-11-09 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I'm just not real hopeful because logistically, Spuffy makes zero sense when one half of it is permanently unavailable. And when you add in the other major character who'll never put in an appearance, namely Angel? I get a bad feeling. I just don't see any continuation of the 'verse with those two characters absences having to be explained away as paying off for me personally. Maybe if it was just a comic, where you can use all the characters at will? But with a Buffy comic and a Spike film? I'm pretty worried.

they're Joss' toys, so sadly we don't het a say!

Unless you're a Bangel. ;)

[identity profile] mikeygs.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL I know. :) It was a tongue-in-cheek thing. Yeah, I'm thinking there'll be more info on the Immortal, too. If they attempt to make him likeable, though, they're in for a job because they pretty much made him to hate in TGIQ.

[identity profile] mikeygs.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
he'll probably be ridiculously charming and superior, but with a hint of something nasty lurking under the surface.

Nah. That's just too easy. In that ep. (and granted, I only watched it once), I don't remember seeing anything all that evil, really. I've always believed that everything was tainted because we were seeing the events through Spike and Angel's POV, who have jealously issues.

And I'm fine! Thank you for asking. :) I really haven't been around LJ as of late--many things to do. I have been reading your posts, though; I just can't really find the time to figure out what I want say and then another comes along and the dog has to go out and all kinds of things. But it's verging on Winter, so time should be more plentiful around here. :)

Hope you're doing well, too. Being busy sucks, this I know.

[identity profile] mikeygs.livejournal.com 2005-11-09 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm... For me, I just don't think Joss has the guts to end either ship definitively, so that doesn't give me the heebs so much as the thought of a whole storyline cropping up around Spike. I mean, just my opinion and all, but if they had any good ideas for him, why didn't they use them in S5, you know? In my head I keep seeing Spike Sue walking around with his new Supa-Friends.

Yeah. I think fandom may have made me a cynic.

[identity profile] swsa.livejournal.com 2005-11-09 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I think he'd end either B/A or B/S at this point. He doesn't have a TV series. It's comic books and straight to DVD movies. Frankly, he'd need to do something big so anyone (beyond us hard-core crazies) would even care. And honestly, ending Spuffy especially, makes sense. Honestly, I wouldn't be able to blame him for it. When I try to come up with *any* scenario where Spuffy's not over and Spike's on screen, I have to admit that I'm delving into pathetic Bangel-y "They could be calling each other every night and meeting when the show's not on!" territory. So yeah, honestly? If he's continuing the verse on screen without Buffy or Angel, I couldn't blame him for ending Spuffy or for going with a B/A ending. I can, however, blame him for wanting to continue the verse in such a half-assed, minimal characters, manner in the first place.

But still, the delusional, hopeful shipper deep inside me can't help but hope that you're right and that Joss won't want to alienate either shipper faction. My fear is just that with so much time passed, and people not being as emotionally involved anymore, he may figure, "What the hell."

But still, the delusional, hopeful shipper deep inside me can't help but hope that you're right and that Joss won't want to alienate either shipper faction.

I want to hope it as well. Because I can see Spike going on alone even two years after events of NFA, and trying to do something by himself, and generally, to be a happy shipper I only need to see him buying tickets to Rome, (well, some other limitations may apply) so I will take anything that will leave the story open.

[identity profile] mikeygs.livejournal.com 2005-11-09 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I can't really disagree with ending it for logistical reasons, but I also think the biggest mark against it is that it's the easiest and expected thing to do. If he's going to try to tie in the comics (or the ideas for comics), then the last thing I heard is that Angel's floundering around Europe and I think I remember an article or fan report where JE said the plan for the S8 Buffy comic was about Buffy, Dawn and their adventures in Rome, including the Immortal. So I really don't know.

Personally, I don't think he'll put either ship together. And I think that may be the best ending for everyone as far as that matter goes. I mean, we all want Buffy and Spike to get together, but then what, you know? Without the residual maybe/maybe not angst, what good would fanfiction be? I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

And you will tremble.

I already am. Only it's fear.

*whimper*

[identity profile] calove.livejournal.com 2005-11-09 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is... it's taken me years to get over canon Spuffy. I've read about what happened post-Chosen/AtS and written thousands of words about it and finally I've got it straight in my mind - what happens post-canon. Not the specifics, you understand - they change depending on mood - but the general. Spike will get the Buffy he wants and deserves and Buffy will become worthy of Spike and will love him, really, really love him. And the getting there may not be easy, but get there they will.

Now, I can read alternative versions of that and enjoy them because they aren't canon and I've sorted my canon, and having done that stops the hurting.

So now along comes Joss with his size 10 boots and stupid morality and treatens to tread all over my delicate Spuffy heart. Because what he writes is canon - the real canon - and I won't be able to ignore it.

Does that make any sense at all? I'm amazed at how emotional I feel about this. It may be the wine talking but...

*whimper*

I'm going to hide behind the sofa...

[identity profile] calove.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's not that a had a problem with canon Spuffy - it was a wonderful love story (although at times I could have cheerfully throttled Buffy... sloooowwlllyyyy). It's more that we didn't get a full resolution in canon. I wanted to see it, dammit! And I was left with issues.

So, I've worked out those issues, and I've accepted what will happen and that the Bangels are poor deluded souls, despite the bollocks Sarah and Joss spout at times.

We may not get Bangel (I hope there's absolutely no refernce to it). Although the comfort of the thought that Sarah and David won't do it ergo no Bangel was ruined when the thought popped into my brain (stupid brain) that they could use it as a way of explaining their absence (ie Angel shanshus and he and Buffy sail off into the sunset and what we see is Spike dealing... If Joss does that, it's the rusty knife for him.

But I don't want more ammo given to the anti-Spuffys. I don't want all of Spike's love for Buffy and all it meant for him just dismissed. I don't want... well, a lot of things :)

But I'm afraid I may get some of them.

*runs back behind the sofa*

:)

Loved the Joss post. So hilariously insane. But I was really, really hoping he wouldn't ever touch that Angel perfect ending. I really don't want it ruined, and ANYTHING after that will undermine it. Especially just with a comic. Backstories Joss! Expand those back stories. Don't touch those endings....

[identity profile] sylva-rerum.livejournal.com 2005-11-09 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be afraid if it was only just a Spike movie. But if the story is going to be continued in the comics as well, that means that storylines won't have to be altered or limited because of actor availablity. And if Joss is in charge, then I don't think I'll have to fear the way Buffy and Spike's relationship is treated since I know Joss likes them. :)

Then again, since this is Joss we're talking about they probably won't end up living blissfully happily ever after either. Heh.

[identity profile] sylva-rerum.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. We seem to be in the extreme minority, though. :)

[identity profile] avrelia.livejournal.com 2005-11-09 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I got tired to be afraid of that infamous Spike movie. I don't want it - my Buffyverse is just in state I like it, in regard of the main characters, anyway. So yes, I do worry insanely that the new movie will ruin the Spuffy possibility and the AtS ending... but I was that worried throughout s7 of BtVS and s5 AtS, so I have a tiny bit of hope that it won't... Of course I don't expect any happily ever after either.

I don't think also that JM can forever play Spike the Vampire - I mean he looks gorgeous, but not twenty-something any longer.

So to sum up again: I am panicking, but I don't want to like those fans who pretends that the seasons 6-7 or 4-7 of BtVS never happened. I always believed that Spuffy is the best thing ever even if they didn't end up together (though in my head they always do), and I would prefer a movie about Kennedy where Wesley is alive.

[identity profile] avrelia.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, just imagine the next Joss' post:
"I was plannig to make the Spike movie, but Avrelia talked me out of it and into making the kennedy movie instead. It's going to be awesome!" I will be killed by the angry mob, torn apart in tiny pieces.

But seriously, I would like to see it. I miss Wesley - and I wanted to see him going over his issues and Fred's death in the non-psycotic way. And I really think there is an intersting story in Kennedy - she has enough issues on her own. But ultimately any obscure character movie would work better for me than - Because I'd love to know them better.

What about Amazing Adventures of Clem and Vi in New Jersey?

[identity profile] asta77.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Joss needs to let go of the franchise, at least in movie form. Several pivtol characters won't be returning because the actors have found successful employment elsewhere. And while James may look fine for his age, he is aging and vampires don't. Not to mention, as much as I loved Spike, he worked best in an ensemble. I'm not sure how interesting I'd find a film about Spike and whatever reoccuring character they can scrape up.

[identity profile] kittyzams.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Squeeeeeee!!!! And yes, this news also terrifies me. I can handle anything in Spike canon except Spaith though. Please no Spaith! At least no matter what happens, fanfic writers can set it straight again! Since the comic is set to begin in Rome, and tie into Spike, at least we can expect some sort of meeting between our two star crossed lovers, no?

Why do I still get such a kick out of "super sekkrit" messages! Must be the 4th grader in me! I will email you at your lj address. :)

[identity profile] jamalov29.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
I think i'll whimper with [livejournal.com profile] calove.

As much as i consider Joss a great writer , I don't think that he will feed my longings with a Spike movie , and certainly not on a spuffy side.
So I can see why some fans are happy with the news , but 'terrified ' wins over ' joyful' in fact ! :)

Oh, I don't mind about that. I can work around it, as long as they don't say Angel's dead, which they won't because of the Angel comic book series, or (what I dread most) that Angel and Buffy are off somewhere together.

That last is worst case scenario for me for lots of reasons, some of them quite petty and spiteful and based on horrible past behaviour by some B/A fans which makes me not want them to get what they want either.

It's a thing.

[personal profile] shapinglight 2005-11-10 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I just hope that Joss won't be tempted to use it as a way of explaining the absence of Buffy and Angel, that's all. I'd like to think that it's just too easy and that looking back and (hopefully) realising that he upset a lot of people with the way he treated Spuffy in season 7 (the fence-sitting, I mean)he'll think twice before offending that 'shipper group.

I'd rather things stayed as they were with the whole S/B/A thing.

[personal profile] shapinglight 2005-11-10 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. They'd be an interesting couple, I think, in that they'd spend all their time arguing, the way people do.

Angel and Buffy, however, would probably spend all their time not telling each other stuff, and there'd be all these long, awkward silences.

[identity profile] bogwitch.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll take more Spike any way I can get it (and I can get some Illyria too, I'm laughing).
