Squeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I'm sure you all know this by now, but Joss posted on Whendonesque!

See, the Buffyverse glows in my brain with a new, overreaching arc that will include the comics, Spike, and more. It's taking shape and soon you will know its name. And you will tremble.

Squeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: Yes I am also terrified of course, but right now the excitement is winning!

Super sekkrit message to [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan and [livejournal.com profile] kittyzams: Can you think of a name? Will e-mail at some point, but Darcy has taken over the iMac for the moment, so if you want to communicate use my LJ address.

Hmm... For me, I just don't think Joss has the guts to end either ship definitively, so that doesn't give me the heebs so much as the thought of a whole storyline cropping up around Spike. I mean, just my opinion and all, but if they had any good ideas for him, why didn't they use them in S5, you know? In my head I keep seeing Spike Sue walking around with his new Supa-Friends.

Yeah. I think fandom may have made me a cynic.

See, I think he'd end either B/A or B/S at this point. He doesn't have a TV series. It's comic books and straight to DVD movies. Frankly, he'd need to do something big so anyone (beyond us hard-core crazies) would even care. And honestly, ending Spuffy especially, makes sense. Honestly, I wouldn't be able to blame him for it. When I try to come up with *any* scenario where Spuffy's not over and Spike's on screen, I have to admit that I'm delving into pathetic Bangel-y "They could be calling each other every night and meeting when the show's not on!" territory. So yeah, honestly? If he's continuing the verse on screen without Buffy or Angel, I couldn't blame him for ending Spuffy or for going with a B/A ending. I can, however, blame him for wanting to continue the verse in such a half-assed, minimal characters, manner in the first place.

But still, the delusional, hopeful shipper deep inside me can't help but hope that you're right and that Joss won't want to alienate either shipper faction. My fear is just that with so much time passed, and people not being as emotionally involved anymore, he may figure, "What the hell."

I want to hope it as well. Because I can see Spike going on alone even two years after events of NFA, and trying to do something by himself, and generally, to be a happy shipper I only need to see him buying tickets to Rome, (well, some other limitations may apply) so I will take anything that will leave the story open.

I guess I can't really disagree with ending it for logistical reasons, but I also think the biggest mark against it is that it's the easiest and expected thing to do. If he's going to try to tie in the comics (or the ideas for comics), then the last thing I heard is that Angel's floundering around Europe and I think I remember an article or fan report where JE said the plan for the S8 Buffy comic was about Buffy, Dawn and their adventures in Rome, including the Immortal. So I really don't know.

Personally, I don't think he'll put either ship together. And I think that may be the best ending for everyone as far as that matter goes. I mean, we all want Buffy and Spike to get together, but then what, you know? Without the residual maybe/maybe not angst, what good would fanfiction be? I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
