One last thing.

Still grumpy about MD, but am not going to write anything else, just point people towards these reviews, which are pretty much spot-on in how they mirror my feelings.

And finally... After MD was over, we channel hopped and came across NCIS, which contained the following scene (sorry about the poor quality). I swear, it was the most delightful breath of fresh air EVER:

ETA: Actually, I've often said that Joss and RTD are very, very similar, and never has this rung more true. If we take Children of Earth and Serenity as Big Proper Standalone Sci-Fi Projects, which were genuinely good and had a relevant message and were entertaining too, then at at the other end of the scale we have s8 and MD. Now s8 is undoubtedly worse than MD (at least everyone is in character in MD, and Strong Women aren't blamed for the world going to hell etc.), but then it's only a comic and no one outside the hardcore fandom even knows it exists. MD otoh was a big shiny production, so I expected significantly more. Not CoE levels of brilliance, but something that didn't remind me of s8 levels of stupid. (OK, going now. I HATE being negative, but damn. SO much wasted potential. I feel like this!)

Although, s8 is pretty impressive in its commitment to wtf-ness. MD's problem is that it took itself too seriously.

I love Abby. And Ziva. And McGee, and Ducky, and Tony, and Gibbs. But especially Abby!

I'm a couple episodes behind on MD; I need to catch up this weekend but it just isn't enthralling me. And sounds like nobody is all that thrilled with how it ends...

Oh, how I love Gibbs and Abby!

And oh, how I'm just so disappointed by OrchwoodTay IricleMay. I'm pig latin disappointed.

Thanks for the plug!

As per the subject-line, I was most gratified to stumble across your reference to my reviews.

Scenes between Abby and Gibbs are always enjoyable

I thought MD started off okay and had one or two good episodes, but the over all arc just didn't work. I loved seeing more of Jack, Gwen and Rhys, but it just lacked...something. I never thought I'd say this, but I really do hope this is the last we ever see of the show. :/

I am currently trying to imagine what would happen if I read s8 and actually liked it. Probably this is the wrong thing to admit while you're busy hating Rusty.

See, that sounds quite brilliant. And I've no great attachment to anything about the show and would probably relish seeing it all overturned. And apparently I love both these writers more the more they piss off their established fanbase, by which logic s8 Buffy just might be one of the defining fictional works of my life.

OTOH, if I'm not going to risk loosing all respect from you or causing your head to explode, a certain amount of the thrill is gone, I'll admit. *goes back to Star Trek*

And if anyone could manage to get payed to be positive, it's you. But I've seen the dancing Barrowman gifs--don't tell me it wouldn't bother you just a bit.

I would never argue that Angel is a bastion of sanity.

Was going to warn you not to read the comments on the doceleven picspam, but I see I am too late.

Quite possibly. I'm starting to remember that everybody was pretty loose over on that comm last year--I managed to get spoiled for several big things from them, which in retrospect I was grateful for.

I take it NCIS has found its stride again? We'd not-so-accidentally forgotten to continue watching it a while ago because we'd decided it felt like the writers had lost all sense of the characters and were writing badfic caricatures instead, but that looks like the real deal.

I can't comment on TW since it's on the recorder until himself watches the previous seasons, but everyone's reactions are not making me hopeful even without clicking through to detailed reviews. And I didn't even like CoE all that much, partially because replaced crackiness with "take me seriously because I'm edgy" without getting rid of the massive stupid. (I mean, large amounts of CoE action were at about the level of leaving the keys in the SUV, without anyone getting called on it.)

[identity profile] keestone.livejournal.com 2011-09-16 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hoo boy. I'm definitely going to have to have us go in a bit forewarned. We're up through They Keep Killing Suzie right now, and so far Beloved's main comment has been, "they really just have Jack randomly kill someone every episode, don't they?" And he's kinda right, although I hadn't actually thought of it that way. I'd just watched TW streaming a bit because it was a good distraction from my thesis and so many good fic writers found interesting things to work with. Even more-so than Harry Potter, Torchwood has been more interesting because of the fandom than the canon for me, but it can be a bit difficult to explain that to someone who doesn't read fic.

[identity profile] keestone.livejournal.com 2011-09-16 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Your fic is VERY MUCH included in that statement. :D

(Yeah. As far as I'm concerned, TW has a lot of fun going for it but it was just hitting its stride in S2 when RTD decided he wanted to play a different game and if everyone didn't like it he'd take his toys and go home.)

Thank you for sharing your reviews and the link to the others. In fact, this quote

This series was one of the very worst things I have ever watched. I can't remember seeing in one place so many dropped plot-lines, so many pointless characters or, in ostensible science fiction, so much half-assed world-building and ludicrously naive political commentary.

summs up my response to MD so perfectly that I almost died laughing... his responses were so creepily in line with my own that I wondered if he'd been inside my head (and I was very glad to see someone besides me had a similar reaction, right down to "I want those ten hours of my life back.").

Meanwhile, my boss is wondering what I'm chuckling at. ; )

The review that was titled "The Passion of the Jack" made me almost spit water all over my computer. TOO funny.
