elisi: Edwin and Charles (Bangel4evah by zanthinegirl)

Apologies to any passing B/A shippers...

...but [livejournal.com profile] zanthinegirl made this icon yesterday, and it made me laugh so hard that my poor husband now fears for my sanity. (You are very welcome to snag.)

And I needed a laugh, because the more I look at the comics, the more they seem to rehash stuff we've already done. Buffy feeling isolated? Oh yes. B/A? Been there, done that. Why couldn't they have thought of something *new*? I think the castle is the problem. It removed Buffy from the everyday life that we all identified with, and we still don't know WHY! *is grumpy* I like show!canon, because that makes SENSE!

*****

Anyway, I realised that I missed [livejournal.com profile] pfeifferpack's birthday, with is very bad!!! So sorry Kathleen, I hope your day was FABULOUS! *sends many belated hugs*

I also missed [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan's, which just made me sad, because I miss her still. We got our LJs within days of each other and learned to navigate fandom together, writing fic etc etc, and talking pretty much daily, until she drifted away. :(

But I need to run away again - RL is busy! (They go back to school on Tuesday! \o/)

But in the next issue, she's going to face The Master! She's never done that before! However will she manage to defeat him?!?

[identity profile] beer-good-foamy.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there's always the chance that The Master will start sparkling and talking about how she can't be happy, and you know where that leads. Good for the Buster shippers, they haven't gotten much of anything since s1.

And it will suddenly make sense in the very last issue! (Clap your hands if you believe in fairies!! >;)

Word.

The thing about the rehashing is that comics add nothing new to stories that were already told on the show.

They are just retold in a more bizarre way.

The show cut some corner on occasion but all it was plotted very well most of time, or at least not so bad it became annoying. Here I have to squint so hard to overlook all the logical gaps and misrepresentations that I can't even really get a look.

Love the icon naturally, though I have to admit that by this time I'm so out of the story I tend to think "Now why not do that 30 issues ago and leave him that way".

Exactly. I think this is why it's so fan-ficcy (in the bad sense) - it's all turning in on itself, with a cracktastic plot added to get everyone to do stuff that'd otherwise be OOC.

Though I wonder, if you have to give half your characters a personality transplant to even fit them into your story, why write about them at all.

It would have been a far better disguise than the mask...
Though it probably would have made much difference, the Buffyverse military would follow everyone.

I think that's a big part of the problem. It's a big rule of fanfic and sequels... go with the characters that brought you to the party. The people came because they wanted to see more of those characters, and when they are acting like total strangers on crack, you begin to wonder what in the hell is even the point.

Maybe I'm just slow but I didn't realise this until I saw your icon... is Angel turning into a frog supposed to be yet another fairytale reference? As in, a prince who's been turned into a frog and will only be restored to his true form by a kiss from his true love?

[identity profile] bobthemole.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that would put a whole new spin on 'When you kiss me, I want to die...'

YOU STOLE MY LINE :D

[identity profile] infinitewhale.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)

It could very well be another reference. Only this time that Prince Charming is just a frog underneath it all.

Yes, so many people have drifted off and you really notice it when that LJ birthday list rolls along.

I don't get that either or why Joss felt the need to retcon so much of the old 'verse. How was Warren so important to the story that he had to be brought back, whether Joss forgot The First played him or not? And so on and so on.

I can maybe, sorta-kinda see what Joss was attempting with all if it if spec is right, but I don't see how it was worth it at all.

Comic fans and Buffy fans need different things.

My response to that would have been: "Why combine them then?"

The whole thing depresses me.

Adores your icon! :-D

[identity profile] adoxerella.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh honey, you don't have to apologize. I think that it is funny, even if I don't get the joke. I've been too busy hiding from the crazy Buffy and Angel clones in the comics. It's gotten so weird that I can't even find the energy to follow it just to point and laugh any more.

I am curious about the frog though.

I miss Lilianmorgan too - she came to one of the WriterConUK meets and she was such a nice lass.

I guess there are always people coming and going for one reason or another, just like friends in off-line life who sometimes drift off into other things - but I really do value friends, like you, who are still here even when we only comment in each other's journals maybe once every month or two.

I do so adore that icon.
