:)
It's the birthday of two lovely LJ ladies today:
sp23 and
jamalov29! Hope you're both having a fabulous day, dears! *squishes you both*
So, in the spirit of present giving and all that, I have a little something for those on my flist who might not have it already: Song 2 by Blur (it is the song that plays as John and Jack start whaling on each other, in case you were wondering). Enjoy! :)
Blur song 2
WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!
I got my head checked
By a jumbo jet
It wasn't easy
But nothing is,
No -
WOOHOO!
When I feel heavy metal WOOHOO!
And I'm pins and I'm needles WOOHOO!
Well I lie and I'm easy
All of the time but I'm never sure why I need you
Pleased to meet you!
I got my head done
When I was young
It's not my problem
It's not my - problem -
WOOHOO!
When I feel heavy metal WOOHOO!
And I'm pins and I'm needles WOOHOO!
Well I lie and I'm easy
All of the time but I'm never sure why I need you
Pleased to meet you!
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Oh, yeah
Now re. that smoking hot teaser... As people have noted, Buffy did violence + sex already in ‘Smashed’, and Angel did it in ‘Destiny’ (although there was only UST of course...). However I adore Jack/John for being wonderfully different. And the difference is simply this (to quote the song): ‘Woo-hoo!’
Jack and John aren’t just turned on - they’re having *fun*! The Buffy/Spike scene in ‘Smashed’ was the culmination of 5 years worth of UST, with layers and layers of layers to every interaction. The Spike/Angel scene in ‘Destiny’ was 120 years worth of resentment and anger released all in one go. (Don’t get me wrong, I adore those scenes in ways I cannot describe, and wouldn't change a thing! But they’re both heavy on the angst.)
But Jack/John... oh there might be resentment (have to wait to see the ep), but most of all there’s joy and glee and revelling in a shared understanding of how they work. (I could totally see this as a typical Spike/Angel reunion a century or so in the future.)
You see, the reason I have ‘Song 2’ is because of
stoney321’s Spangel fanmix. This is what she says about it:
Spike gets a Slayer: Blur, Song2. WHOO HOO!!! And I feel heavy metal!! Spike. Boxer Rebellion. Fire. jumping over the barrel. That's it.
It’s a ‘Hells Yeah!’ song. :)
Oh and the scene is also the perfect example of why Torchwood is a *good* thing. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Doctor Who, but it is a *family* show... and showing a character getting totally turned on by violence is something I doubt they’ll ever show. (OK, there was The Master, but he was *evil* and it was fairly subtly done. Torchwood? Not so much with the subtle. ::loves show::) ETA: It strikes me that I should probably add that this was of course its downfall in S1. *crosses fingers for S2*
Oh and Jealous!Ianto is one of the cutest things ever! *pets him* :)
ETA: Here is one of the prettiest wallpapers of all time!

Yes, that puts a smile on my face, every time I see it in a character. It's why I can watch old Robin Hood and musketeer movies so often. Can't tell you, how much I love it combined with man on man action, for that alone RTD deserves a kiss.
What makes me a bit sad is that I'd like to see it in women more often. Buffy had a little of it, Faith more so but never with the lighthearted swashbuckler attitude. Starbuck in BSG maybe, but even she got an angst overload.

Same here. (Esp Spike in 'Doomed' and 'Get it Done'! *g*)

I'm still stunned at how much I'm squeeing over Torchwood. Who'd have thunk, eh?

I think it's a very male thing, to be honest. Not that women can't have it - I'm suddenly thinking of Kennedy's "I could get used to this!" in 'Chosen' - but there it's a Slayer thing. Any other examples really are rather angsty...

Oh Yes!!!

Not me :)
I just hope, they can keep it up without JM.
I think it's a very male thing, to be honest. Not that women can't have it I love it on women, more so because it's so rare. Could watch Starbuck's fistfights over and over. Kennedy could have gone there I think, but until I get my perfect girl panache, I'm doing very well, with the kissing boys :)

*nods a lot* But from the interviews I've skimmed they do seem to have a much better idea of what they're doing this year. *crosses fingers*

Three cheers for Torchwood! :)
