:)

It's the birthday of two lovely LJ ladies today: [livejournal.com profile] sp23 and [livejournal.com profile] jamalov29! Hope you're both having a fabulous day, dears! *squishes you both*

So, in the spirit of present giving and all that, I have a little something for those on my flist who might not have it already: Song 2 by Blur (it is the song that plays as John and Jack start whaling on each other, in case you were wondering). Enjoy! :)

Blur song 2

WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!

I got my head checked
By a jumbo jet
It wasn't easy
But nothing is,
No -

WOOHOO!
When I feel heavy metal WOOHOO!
And I'm pins and I'm needles WOOHOO!
Well I lie and I'm easy
All of the time but I'm never sure why I need you
Pleased to meet you!

I got my head done
When I was young
It's not my problem
It's not my - problem -

WOOHOO!
When I feel heavy metal WOOHOO!
And I'm pins and I'm needles WOOHOO!
Well I lie and I'm easy
All of the time but I'm never sure why I need you
Pleased to meet you!

Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Oh, yeah

Now re. that smoking hot teaser... As people have noted, Buffy did violence + sex already in ‘Smashed’, and Angel did it in ‘Destiny’ (although there was only UST of course...). However I adore Jack/John for being wonderfully different. And the difference is simply this (to quote the song): ‘Woo-hoo!’

Jack and John aren’t just turned on - they’re having *fun*! The Buffy/Spike scene in ‘Smashed’ was the culmination of 5 years worth of UST, with layers and layers of layers to every interaction. The Spike/Angel scene in ‘Destiny’ was 120 years worth of resentment and anger released all in one go. (Don’t get me wrong, I adore those scenes in ways I cannot describe, and wouldn't change a thing! But they’re both heavy on the angst.)

But Jack/John... oh there might be resentment (have to wait to see the ep), but most of all there’s joy and glee and revelling in a shared understanding of how they work. (I could totally see this as a typical Spike/Angel reunion a century or so in the future.)

You see, the reason I have ‘Song 2’ is because of [livejournal.com profile] stoney321’s Spangel fanmix. This is what she says about it:

Spike gets a Slayer: Blur, Song2. WHOO HOO!!! And I feel heavy metal!! Spike. Boxer Rebellion. Fire. jumping over the barrel. That's it.

It’s a ‘Hells Yeah!’ song. :)

Oh and the scene is also the perfect example of why Torchwood is a *good* thing. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Doctor Who, but it is a *family* show... and showing a character getting totally turned on by violence is something I doubt they’ll ever show. (OK, there was The Master, but he was *evil* and it was fairly subtly done. Torchwood? Not so much with the subtle. ::loves show::) ETA: It strikes me that I should probably add that this was of course its downfall in S1. *crosses fingers for S2*

Oh and Jealous!Ianto is one of the cutest things ever! *pets him* :)

Total agreement! That's exactly why I love the scene so much. That joy he takes from violence was also one of the things I liked best about Spike. I just can't resist someone, who goes to a fight with a smile on his face (Love the speech, he gives Angelus about this in the mine backflash)

Torchwood? Not so much with the subtle. ::loves show::)
It walks a fine line there and during first season the fell off several times. But if the second season is as cool as the previews it could really rule television. Less angst, more fun and dare and it might be perfect (more JM could not hurt as well).

Thanks for the links :)

Jack's face esp just makes me go *guh*. He's just so... free. :)
Yes, that puts a smile on my face, every time I see it in a character. It's why I can watch old Robin Hood and musketeer movies so often. Can't tell you, how much I love it combined with man on man action, for that alone RTD deserves a kiss.
What makes me a bit sad is that I'd like to see it in women more often. Buffy had a little of it, Faith more so but never with the lighthearted swashbuckler attitude. Starbuck in BSG maybe, but even she got an angst overload.

Sorry - don't agree, unless he's had a personality transplant.

Thanks for uploading that song. (And thanks to Stoney for putting it on her fanmix. :)

there’s joy and glee and revelling in a shared understanding of how they work.

You've summed up my feelings about the scene exactly. They're not just fighting, they're *loving* it. And that makes me love it, too.

I could totally see this as a typical Spike/Angel reunion a century or so in the future.

Dude. I could see this as a typical S/A reunion *now*. I really think their relationship at the end of "Not Fade Away" is very, very far from where it was in "Destiny." They almost had that kind of reunion in "Why We Fight" and "School Hard," but Spike was evil and Angel not so much, so that got between them. Now that they're both on the same side, I think they'd be overjoyed to see each other again after a long separation. I wish they were doing it that way in the comics. (Though my theory is that the current animosity is a front, and there's much more going on than meets the eye.)

Esp Spike in 'Doomed' and 'Get it Done'! *g*
Oh Yes!!!

Who'd have thunk, eh?
Not me :)
I just hope, they can keep it up without JM.

I think it's a very male thing, to be honest. Not that women can't have it I love it on women, more so because it's so rare. Could watch Starbuck's fistfights over and over. Kennedy could have gone there I think, but until I get my perfect girl panache, I'm doing very well, with the kissing boys :)

Thanks-- that's one song I didn't have. Cool!

I want to love Torchwood. It had moments I loved, but the whole doesn't follow organically. I hear they've grown a sense of humor this year... That should do it for me unless they really mangle it! And we get to watch only a couple of weeks behind you! Doctor Who is months behind...

When I saw that scene, all I could think was, 'You know, Jack kinda looks like Angel.' A totally extra level of hotness there.

in the season 2 trailer, I was struck by someone resembling Angel, and it wasn't Jack. From the angle he's shown in there, Rhys looks like what Angel might have looked like if he turned into a couch potato. o_o;; I'm not insinuating that Rhys is fat, just that he isn't in an as athletic shape as Angel.

Oooh. I've always thought Kai Owen (Rhys) looked like a slightly chunkier David Boreanaz - I've commented on it to several friends offline as well as online. Hee! Good to know others see it.
