Update from the House of Plague ;)
In personal news, everyone is on the mend, more or less - I'm not sure if the virus is just less strong now, but it's nothing like when we first had it in the summer of 2021.
~
ANYWAY. In more fun news, the costumes for Fifteen and Ruby Sunday have been revealed. :)
On TikTok here (with thanks to sea_thoughts!) or instagram here.
~
And to get you in a Christmassy mood:
100 snow pictures from the Faroes (They had a LOT of snow.)
~
Also been meaning to post about this, but time just vanished:
Mission Christmas
It's basically buying presents for children who would otherwise not get one. Tomorrow is the last day for dropping off a present, but you can also donate online.
~
And randomly from the internet:
The US' 2,000-year-old mystery mounds
~
Plus a petition:
We Demand Universal Free School Meals
~
Finally a song by a singer I'd never come across before, and that I found by pure change when googling for something for my fic. Very atmospheric, and quite EivΓΈr-like:
Fuel to Fire by Agnes Obel
~
Oh and after... two weeks (?) of COLD (hovering between 0 and -3), tomorrow it will apparently be 15 degrees, which is just ridiculous. I'm not complaining (I will finally be able to stop watching the smart meter like a hawk), but it is a huge leap.

SO CUTE.
Rusty, honey, darling, idiot, please, please bring back Confidential. It makes such a difference.

Well, then we can all nostalgically think if Chibnall's 'Fam' who just left when they felt like it and were all fine... ;)

With emotional support, no less. We really must give Chibbs proper credit for this: he gave us the first female Doctor, and all his companions left of their own choice and were fine.
I require allllll the backstage antics <3

I'm pondering this, and the lack of emotional devastation during the Chinball years. I am 100% for companions leaving happily and without trauma, but I would also like some emotional investment? I'm pondering this, because I stumbled across a new reactor and watched their reactions to S1 eps 1 and 2 so far, and by ep 2 she was crying. I hope RTD can (now) manage a balance between emotional investment so we really care, without having to go heavy on the exits.

I think we would have been a LOT more invested in the Fam if we could have seen more backstage stuff. They all loved each other to bits, and Bradley Walsh is a known live-wire. And now with Ncuti & Millie they clearly hit it off famously, it'd be a crime NOT to get behind the scenes stuff...
no subject
Yeah, my brain immediately went down the same path. Part of the ease of their leaving is that being there didn't seem to have impacted them that hard (with the possible exception of Yaz). So, yeah, there's a balance to be found there, as you say.

Good god, over what?

Infinitely agree. I know they put out some little YouTube things, but I wasn't even invested enough to seek them out.

More personality happened in that 30 second TikTok than most of season 11.

Is Russell T Davies the man to achieve this balance? Stay turned to find out! (Experience says... probably not *g*)
Good god, over what?
Not like floods of tears, but tree-lady dies and there are a lot of emotional points where the Doctor reveals more about himself. Good reaction, will watch more. Also it's amazing how the Doctor/Rose dynamic just sells the whole thing from the start. It's nice to watch people fall for it. :)

Harsh, but fair. I need icons of them in their outfits, but my own efforts were crap and I don't have the energy to try again. Do you know of any icons?

*gigglesnort* All signs point to no, but let's find out!

Ahhh, ok.

Can't relate, but it's always interesting to see what draws people. Enthusiasm is enjoyable.

Can't say that I do, but I've not been looking. Have 4 days off for Christmas here, though, so will keep an eye out.

LOL. They are so cute. But also the shock of getting cursing in Doctor Who BTS stuff!

More Martha's, fewer Donna's!
Ahhh, ok.
I don't think she was prepared for how much she would care for a) random characters (and the show on the whole - and certainly in S1 - does the so well. You have known little blue engineer on Platform 1 for like 2 minutes, and are sad when she is killed off).

The bit in episode 1, where they're walking and the Doctor ends up doing his speech about feeling the Earth move through space - she was impressed with their chemistry. RTD cast them well. :)

If you happen to see any, I'd be grateful. I somehow don't have the energy rn. (I need to go to town & buy the last few Christmas presents today... and it's raining.)

Most of the comments are the equivalent of 'Bad Doctor! No cookie! Think of the children!'

I side-eyed this for a second before I remembered we were talking about departures.

I'm never gonna understand people's obsession with that scene! It's . . . fine? A little weird, tbh.

Ewwwww. Hope it was a quick and successful trip?

I'm reminded of the story that Tom Baker, who by all reports was a pretty horrible human being back when he was on Doctor Who, was nevertheless extremely careful to be on his best behavior around kids because he knew what it would mean if they saw the Doctor, say, smoking. Not that I think a lot of 6-year-olds are on Instagram, but you know. It does bring you up short for a second.

LOL. Anyway, I am having (small) thoughts here: https://elisi.dreamwidth.org/2148299.html

But that is the point? He has no reason to keep talking to her, really, but he does - and then he gives this (literally) Out of this World speech, and both Rose and the viewers are enchanted. Because it's not 'I'm a 900 year old Time Lord from Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterberous' - it's 'I can feel the planet turning' and it's so much more Other. Up until then it's murderous mannequins and stuff blowing up and running and it's all a bit silly - but this moment just elevates it into a whole other dimension. I love it.
Ewwwww. Hope it was a quick and successful trip?
It was fine and we had a nice lunch at The Muffin Break.

I'm happy for you - although I wish we could have had just a little bit of snow, just because it's so pretty... It's a pain travel-wise, but I do love it.

Glad to hear it! Yeah, that was very much my impression with my second bout: 'it's laughable that we can call this the same disease.'
ANYWAY. In more fun news, the costumes for Fifteen and Ruby Sunday have been revealed. :)
Both seem solid. Putting the Doctor in a frock coat is never the wrong move. I wish there was a little more detail in the shirt area? Which seems like a ridiculous thing to say when somebody is wearing head-to-toe tartan and neon orange, but there you are. Well, these things often come off better in motion anyway. Ruby's is very Amy Pond, which I'm not gonna complain about.

Our weather's being schizophrenic here too. And all Christmas weekend the highs are supposed to top out at 26 (many degrees below freezing--very unusual).

I have heard horror stories of course of people whose 3rd of 4th bout was terrible, and am very glad that this has not been the case - and hope that it keeps getting generally milder.

Yeah - colourful and distinctive. Nice contrast to 14.

I know what you mean, but then it might evolve...

Same here. And very on-trend. My 17 year old would be happy wearing that I think.
*whistles*
Many villages completely cut off etc. But it sure it pretty. And compared to the ZERO SNOW we have had I can't help but feel a little jealous.

*goes to look up what 26F is in real temperatures* Ah, -3. Yeah, that's not warm. :( We have gone through a LOT of fire wood so far.

I only just noticed the mustache. That's a choice. I think I like it? Ages him up a bit.

I'm ready for a little more variety again. I think 13 technically had some different shirts, but like, you hardly noticed.

I had the horrifying realization that they look the same because season five was actually so long ago the trend has had time to come back around. Excuse me while I go check myself into a nursing home.

I think we technically got some flakes earlier this morning, but we generally don't get real snow until January, if then. This seems like a great year for a serious blizzard, though. Everything cancelled for a week. Come on, universe, you owe us that much. The Faroes can spare some.

On the plus side it simplifies my packing: I'm just going to shove every wool item I own and my long underwear in a suitcase and hope for the best.
You have a wood stove, yes? That sounds cozy.

Mmmm. He plays a teenager in Sex Education, and basically pulls it off. Also unusual choice, Doctor-wise, so that's good.

Yes, sometimes she had a reddish shirt. But that was it.

LOL! Welcome to the club. *g*

Did you wish REALLY HARD? A βonce in a generationβ winter storm will impact nearly every state and cripple Christmas travel.

Good choice. Warmth is everything.

It is, very. :)

Look, I know I seem all fun and cool, but I have a barely-contained inner ISFJ, and she needs a lot of stability.

How old is this one? *goes to look it up* 30. Technically older than MS was, but I'm older too now, so basically a child.
LOL! Welcome to the club. *g*
All the hot young things right now are basically wearing what I wore in middle school and it is both weirdly validating and deeply, deeply disturbing.
Did you wish REALLY HARD?
Not hard enough: we're outside the snow radius on that one. It's raining all day today and then the temp is going to plummet overnight. So we might manage some icy surfaces, but that's it : (

Genuine LOL

Do all policemen look like they are 12?

This will keep happening. Along with 'They are wearing WHAT?'

To be honest, that's quite reassuring. I don't really want you in a 'once-in-a-generation' storm...

It's been a long journey to accepting this about myself.
Do all policemen look like they are 12?
That's vaguely familiar, but I'm not placing it. Did Clara say that?

It's weirdly liberating. I feel so above it all.

We may have gotten that about a decade ago. 36 inches of snow in one go (about a meter). Literally couldn't get out for a week. Senators from Montana were complaining that no wonder the federal government is so worthless--they're crippled by a little snow.

I applaud your inner growth.

That's just a general saying - a sign of getting old is that all the policemen look YOUNG.
It's weirdly liberating. I feel so above it all.
Not caring is lovely. :)

The Faroese do the same with the Danes - when Denmark gets show the whole place is crippled, because they get it so rarely. In the Faroes 'Driving in the snow' is a compulsory part of getting your driving license.
no subject
Huh. Wonder where I ran into that, then. It's definitely not used in the US.

That surprises me that Denmark doesn't get much snow! I guess because it's so coastal? But yeah, there's winters here where we barely get two inches, total, so it's not like it's worth investing in a million snow plows to keep things clear in the winters where there's more. And nobody has the snow driving skills.
