elisi: LOVE (i got you blue)

2 fannish things

We got a trailer and a date for Jodie's last episode:

I am excited for Dhawan. I think he single-handedly has saved the era for me, just through being so amazing. I am hoping that Ace & Tegan will be well-served, but mostly I'm just praying that Chibnall doesn't break anything else before he leaves.

If anyone happens to love Thirteen and Chibnall - I'm happy, they need some love. They just singularly failed to grab me. (I loved writing Thirteen, but that's different.)

But, in more exciting news!!!

It feels like a million years since Good Omens aired... as with most things pre-covid. But goodness, a single poster is poking at emotions that have merely laid dormant, waiting for their moment. Their wings form a heart! The background is nicely grey. The number 2 has both a halo AND a tail. *flail*

I also look forward to spending 9 months speculating on what the blue feather means.

God, I hope Jodie has a good final episode. I feel like she's definitely the Sixth Doctor of the new era.

Ooooof. You know what? You're right.

Big Finish better get on that, stat.

... The stories might be better quality! (Although that wouldn't be hard.)
They almost certainly would.

if you want to enjoy me being grumpy.
Of course!

I see it as sort of a moral duty: encouraging you to hate things.

But that doesn't mean it's not entertaining too ; )

I genuinely cannot wait to see Big Finish's take on Thirteen. And Yaz. And Ryan, if Tosin wants to come back.

It's not like there weren't good bones here. It just spectacularly failed to deliver in any way, shape, or form.

Yep. I can't wait to see someone develop Ryan a bit more, and Ryan's relationship with Yaz, and Ryan's relationship with Thirteen...

Honestly I thought Ryan was one of the stronger aspects of the whole era, and yet he was still under-served, as you say.

He had a ton of potential and yet they did almost nothing with him. His hobby as a YouTuber/vlogger, his dyspraxia (which came and went depending on the writer), his grief over losing Grace... Those are just a few things that could have played into his character and they weren't used.

I am quite certain I would not have shipped Thirteen/Yaz no matter how well the show sold it, just say no to Doctor/companion ships (except Romana), yadda, yadda.

But it would have been nice to have some level of emotional investment in the Doctor-companion relationship. Just, you know, the thing that has powered the show for nearly sixty years.

Personality-wise, yes, they're polar opposites, but in terms of being the Doctors of their respective eras most thoroughly mis-served by the writing, they are the same. And, come to think of it, the fundamental sin may be the same as well: misreading the Doctor's character too far from the mean, albeit in opposite directions.

ETA: omg that could be an amazing project - rewrite Kerblam! with all the different Doctors and see how they would tackle it.
*whistles* If anybody can do it, it's you. I'm sure it would be cathartic.

This is an interesting point, and I wonder what it says about me that I really do adore Six, and find Thirteen so frustrating... I guess that I much prefer characters that I know where stand rather than 'nice' blanks.
Also you have a long history of stanning difficult characters. It's entirely in line for you.

Whereas I think I could have very much liked Thirteen . . . if they were going somewhere with her understated-ness. Remember my hopes for a Five-ish stealth character arc? Yeah, I don't think we're going to get it.

I thank you for the confidence. Although I would probably have to re-watch it first. :(
At what cost, the fix-it?

But the sheer idea of Six bitch-slapping everyone might spur me on...
Yes, let the hate flow through you. /fannish rage-Yoda

Seven would cause a galaxy-wide revolution of course.
Naturally.

Ten would have flirted with the sad girl who ended up dying (Kiera?) and be FURIOUS and rant at everyone the same way he did when Jenny died.
LMAO, true . . . Wow, I hate this episode already.

Twelve would shout at the bomber-guy that he had fundamentally misunderstood how workers protest and ask Clara to explain about the history of workers revolt.
Bless his proletariat socks.

Eleven... depends where he is at in his story, and whom with. I'll have to think about it.
NGL, I would watch all these things.

Same. The Doctor doesn't need to be huge and bombastic but there does need to be some depth and they just didn't give Jodie enough. WHY hire her if you're not going to give her a great character arc?

Hmm. She's sort of the opposite? Six was pointy and difficult, whereas Thirteen is too nice.

I didn't mean character-wise. They're complete opposites in that sense. I meant in the sense that there has been a lot of behind the scenes turmoil affecting the Thirteenth Doctor's run (some of it unavoidable), the BBC has been cutting the budget when it should be spending more on DW (as Moffat pointed out), and a lot of the writing has been "meh" to "poor" to the point that many people just stopped watching or, as in your case, completely disengaged from the show on a fandom level. Despite all the excitement that surrounded her casting, Team Chibnall completely wasted the goodwill that people had towards Jodie and we never got back to that.

I started trying to imagine Six in Kerblam! and omg. I don't know if he'd have burned the place to the ground or simply left in disgust.

God, I would love to see someone rewrite that episode with Six... or Nine... or even Twelve. One of the Doctors who'd really rip it apart, anyway.

I laughed out loud in real life. What a delicious image.

Seven would cause a galaxy-wide revolution of course.

Of course and Ace would have ended up blowing up the central computer and saving Keira (in my optimistic re-write).

Ten would have flirted with the sad girl who ended up dying (Kiera?) and be FURIOUS and rant at everyone the same way he did when Jenny died.

Yep. I also think he would have talked Charlie down and ended up preventing him from dying after a desperate rewiring of the AI.

Twelve would shout at the bomber-guy that he had fundamentally misunderstood how workers protest and ask Clara to explain about the history of workers revolt.

Love it. Also, imagine how different things would have been if Twelve and Bill had turned up, with Bill infiltrating the cleaning crew.
