elisi: LOVE (i got you blue)

2 fannish things

We got a trailer and a date for Jodie's last episode:

I am excited for Dhawan. I think he single-handedly has saved the era for me, just through being so amazing. I am hoping that Ace & Tegan will be well-served, but mostly I'm just praying that Chibnall doesn't break anything else before he leaves.

If anyone happens to love Thirteen and Chibnall - I'm happy, they need some love. They just singularly failed to grab me. (I loved writing Thirteen, but that's different.)

But, in more exciting news!!!

It feels like a million years since Good Omens aired... as with most things pre-covid. But goodness, a single poster is poking at emotions that have merely laid dormant, waiting for their moment. Their wings form a heart! The background is nicely grey. The number 2 has both a halo AND a tail. *flail*

I also look forward to spending 9 months speculating on what the blue feather means.

This is an interesting point, and I wonder what it says about me that I really do adore Six, and find Thirteen so frustrating... I guess that I much prefer characters that I know where stand rather than 'nice' blanks.
Also you have a long history of stanning difficult characters. It's entirely in line for you.

Whereas I think I could have very much liked Thirteen . . . if they were going somewhere with her understated-ness. Remember my hopes for a Five-ish stealth character arc? Yeah, I don't think we're going to get it.

I thank you for the confidence. Although I would probably have to re-watch it first. :(
At what cost, the fix-it?

But the sheer idea of Six bitch-slapping everyone might spur me on...
Yes, let the hate flow through you. /fannish rage-Yoda

Seven would cause a galaxy-wide revolution of course.
Naturally.

Ten would have flirted with the sad girl who ended up dying (Kiera?) and be FURIOUS and rant at everyone the same way he did when Jenny died.
LMAO, true . . . Wow, I hate this episode already.

Twelve would shout at the bomber-guy that he had fundamentally misunderstood how workers protest and ask Clara to explain about the history of workers revolt.
Bless his proletariat socks.

Eleven... depends where he is at in his story, and whom with. I'll have to think about it.
NGL, I would watch all these things.

Oh absolutely. But I was all ready to stan 13, because I knew she'd have a hard time, and yet I just... don't care enough.
Ironically, I feel like Thirteen has generally been well received. But maybe I'm just looking at the right wrong parts of the internet. I feel like every complaint I read about the Chibnall era starts with 'no shade on Jodie, she's great, but . . .' And people seemed to realize pretty instantaneously that a female Doctor just works. Maybe if she'd needed more defending, you'd have been compelled to dig in a bit more?

But Five is <3 <3 <3 and so are his little ducklings. No such luck with Thirteen. :(
Maybe in true Classic Who style, Chibbs is saving all the emotional substance for the last episode. (I'm a little amazed that my 'maybe this season/episode/whatever will be the one to crack it all open for me' has survived this long. Thank goodness this really is the last time I can extend that hope, I'm quite tired.)

I need to finish my (big) fic first.
Oh, for sure. *pets all the bunnies*

He'd go off-screen for a few minutes, and next thing we know society is collapsing and he'd just shrug and say he paid a little visit...
*snort*

"Look up the Luddites! Or just set up a union or organise a strike - I can't believe how utterly incompetent you are. Look, let's get some French people to show you how it's done."
*snoooooorrrt*

I might do it as short stories, rather than whole episodes...
Yeah, that sounds advisable. Not like you have to relive everything to make the point.

But with the unlikeability comes something to dig into, whereas Thirteen is just layers of niceness with opaqueness below. There is nothing TO defend, I don't know what makes her tick.
Well, what little substance we have gotten has pretty much all come with the Master, so here's hoping. Damn, there I go again *curses profusely*

(That said, she was interesting to write, because I could project things onto her.)
Lol. Silver linings, I guess. What's weird is that I don't feel like I can objectively say that there's less to her than . . . a majority of the classic Doctors, really. But it feels like less.

You get gold stars for optimism!
God, the sheer wrongness of this. Get us out of this ass-backwards era; I can't cope anymore.

It's only been... 2 years? *cries*
Alas, a familiar fandom refrain. What percent done do you think you are?

I'm pondering. Let's see how we go.
I'm sure it's a nice little addition to the Maybe.

I was pondering this, and I think it's the gulf between Old Who and New. Specifically the Time War. She feels more like a Classic Doctor, which is why I keep saying it's as if she's AU. She doesn't have the heft and the depth of someone who has been through what the War Doctor has. (Dhawan? More than yes.)
Thought: the Second Doctor era, for all that it is deeply lovely, is rather lacking in the moral ambiguity department. It's like after One's slow realization that, actually, there's quite a lot of awfulness happening in the universe and, actually, he would like to be the one to do something about it, there's this half-oblivious honeymoon period where the Doctor gets to skip merrily about the universe vanquishing monsters and then literally leaving out the back door without a word of goodbye or thought for what happens next. The ultimate unencumbered Doctor. (This obviously all comes crashing to an end when the Time Lords catch up with him.) Possibly we might view Thirteen as a second attempt at this time, after the deep soul-searching and reaffirmation of his identity by Twelve, but when the Master shows up he's like, dude. In case you haven't noticed we are old now and everything is fucked the fuck up. GET IT TOGETHER.

And then Thirteen basically pulls the equivalent of sticking her fingers in her ears and going 'lalalalalala'

LOL. (It feels like Buffy days of yore, with the die hard Xander stans going 'THIS season will be Xander's season'...
And now you're comparing me to Xander fans? Wow, just rub salt in the wound why don't you.

Oh I'm nearly done. 85 - 90%? I'm good. :) ETA: Of course I was delayed by my little 'extra stories' that ended up 19k words long. /o\ Why am I like this? /rhetorical question.
Because it's funny?

Same. The Doctor doesn't need to be huge and bombastic but there does need to be some depth and they just didn't give Jodie enough. WHY hire her if you're not going to give her a great character arc?

I both love and hate watching her in the recent seasons because it's not like she wasn't good from the start, but I feel she's really nailed the Doctor-y essence of late, and she's just go nothing to hang it on.
