Three seasons is fairly standard, but the seasons themselves have been shorter and covid really hasn't helped.
I certainly hope a person of color will replace her.
I... almost can't imagine that they'll cast someone white. At least it'd be strange if they didn't cast a POC.

(and as I have also said before, they already used the "Best actor for the job" card with Capaldi, so even that defence would not work)

Yeah, that's not going to happen.
I've said before that Chibnall casting a female Doctor wasn't brave, it was the least he could do, and if the next showrunner defaults to a white actor (even if it's a woman), that will probably be a death-blow for the current era of Doctor Who because the world has changed a lot since 2017.

Through The Corsair, to Melody/River changing 'race', to Missy (♥) to the General who went from old & white & male to young(er) & Black & female. Sorry for rambling, you got me thinking back over all this. As far as I know there's nothing on screen - before Moffat - to support any of this. Of course it has been discussed endlessly, but Moffat made it canon. Which is nice. Sure he also cast two white blokes*, but they're my favourites so. ;) Here's to no more white blokes until we have had at LEAST twelve Black women.
*OK, three
