elisi: Living in interesting times is not worth it (memes will save us)
As always, The Onion gets it right:

I don't really want to write this, but I've had this post in my head for weeks now, so here goes.

I haven't been watching the trial. I have no particular interest in the trial. But I have seen all the discourse around the trial, and it's made me deeply uncomfortable. Because, as far as I can tell, It's a witch trial.

"But!" people will say - "She IS a witch! And now we even have the jury verdict to prove it!"

That's not my point. It's that the whole discourse has been a Misogyny Free For All, and it's horrible, and it's not a demon that can be put back in its box.

Monika Lewinsky wrote a really good post on this, please read:

We Are All Guilty

And what worries me is that this whole thing could be setting a precedent, the main one everyone is talking about being Marilyn Manson files defamation lawsuit against Evan Rachel Wood.

(If you can bear to read it all, a couple of articles. I couldn't finish the second one, it's so vile: A Timeline of Abuse Allegations Against Marilyn Manson 25.05.22 and Marilyn Manson: The Monster Hiding in Plain Sight.)

I bring this up, because Manson is a good friend of Depp's. And I wonder how it will play out. Will Depp stand by his friend? Or will he use his new status (sorry, can't think of a better word) as DV victim/spokesperson to stand with Manson's victims?

The big moments are gonna come, you can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are.

I'm not much of Royalist (I like the tradition & the pageantry, and I'm glad we don't have a President Johnson), but a Royal family is an expensive luxury, and I'm not sure it's very humane to keep people in gilded cages. ANYWAY, thanks to the Jubilee I have a four day weekend, which is nice!

A couple of takes from Twitter:

And this is fascinating:

“Little Women” author Louisa May Alcott was a transgender man
“I am more than half-persuaded that I am, by some freak of nature, a man’s soul put into a woman’s body.”

Sidebar: I have never read Little Women. Indeed, I didn't know it existed until I was an adult. You are welcome to yell at me in the comments. :)

Daily Dimash: Okay

New song is here, now with a fabulous video (I love 'proper' videos that tell a story). The song is very very lowkey (not sure how else to describe it), none of the crazy highs or lows, but it has grown on me, the way good pop songs tend to...

It's another Igor Krutoy creation (the premiere of which was pulled b/c of Russia's invasion of Ukraine). You can read about the idea behind the video here. :)

Reaction videos:
