And now for something completely different!

I'm not much of Royalist (I like the tradition & the pageantry, and I'm glad we don't have a President Johnson), but a Royal family is an expensive luxury, and I'm not sure it's very humane to keep people in gilded cages. ANYWAY, thanks to the Jubilee I have a four day weekend, which is nice!

A couple of takes from Twitter:

And this is fascinating:

“Little Women” author Louisa May Alcott was a transgender man
“I am more than half-persuaded that I am, by some freak of nature, a man’s soul put into a woman’s body.”

Sidebar: I have never read Little Women. Indeed, I didn't know it existed until I was an adult. You are welcome to yell at me in the comments. :)

Daily Dimash: Okay

New song is here, now with a fabulous video (I love 'proper' videos that tell a story). The song is very very lowkey (not sure how else to describe it), none of the crazy highs or lows, but it has grown on me, the way good pop songs tend to...

It's another Igor Krutoy creation (the premiere of which was pulled b/c of Russia's invasion of Ukraine). You can read about the idea behind the video here. :)

Reaction videos:

DIMASH "OKAY" | Análisis / Reacción | Vocal coach (Possibly the most excited reaction you will ever see to anything! :) Make sure to put on the subtitles.)

Actor and Filmmaker REACTION and ANALYSIS - DIMASH "OKAY" MUSIC VIDEO! (Lots of insights into what the video is doing, A+ commentary)

Jo was very much a reflection of LM Alcott for sure.

I’ve never read Little Women either …

I am not a royalist either - but I have no strong feelings either way - the Queen has few powers that matter and it used to be handy to have her impress other visiting dignitaries. I’m not sure it’s needed these days … it’ll be interesting to see what the next generation do.

The fabled epoch of free time steadily approaches, and I will get back to you properly

I'm too busy and too far left on the political spectrum to do anything but go "yay, bank holiday!" as well.

But I'm gonna share this quote, cause it was funny:

'Having a monarchy next door is a little like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and has daubed their house with clown murals, displays clown dolls in each window and has an insatiable desire to hear about and discuss clown-related news stories. More specifically, for the Irish, it’s like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and, also, your grandfather was murdered by a clown'.

The Jubilee actually made it above the fold in the newspaper over here, which has been almost exclusively reserved for Ukraine and mass shootings recently. Still, I am exercising my American right to ignore all things monarchical. Hope it's a lovely long weekend, though.

Don't worry, I've never read Little Women either, though the Wynona Rider movie version is one of my great sentimental favorites.

I think it says more about the times that Alcott lived in that she felt she was "a man's soul in a woman's body" because her ambition and distaste for marriage weren't seen as appropriate for a woman and she was the breadwinner. Wearing trousers and enjoying life without a man doesn't make her trans. There's been intense speculation about her sexuality, though.
