elisi: River runs deep (Angel - river runs deep by miz_thang88)
Thanks to Mark Watches I've been thinking about (and - as always - appreciating) Angel. Which led me to go look up some of my favourite vids, and fall in love with this one all over again:

Cuckoo by [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24.

Summary: Where Lindsey ends and Angel begins.

Thinking again about that quote of Joss' (about Angel being a decent, handsome & stalwart hero), then really Angel's problem was that he liked the idea of being a hero (and fitted the part well enough when he really tried), yet at heart he was just like Lindsey: He always wanted to be special and he wanted power. Lindsey's worst moment is his death, not because he dies, but because of HOW. He wanted to be a Player, wanted to be important, wanted to be Someone - the sort of Someone that Angel became partly through dedication (worst vampire on record), and partly through bad (or good, depends on how you view it) luck (he was cursed with a soul, and all ~unique~). He falters when Spike might be The One, just like Lindsey does later when he's killed by a flunky. Humility is the thing he struggles with constantly... (Also see C.S.Lewis' thoughts on pride. Hmmm. Angel as a modern parable on the deadly dangers of pride. Interesting.)

But seriously, watch the vid!

Also [livejournal.com profile] kikimay has written about Flawed heroes in BtVS and AtS, if anyone has any thoughts. :)

ETA: There needs to be a Doctor/River vid to Joyride, like... yesterday!

And it all begins where it ends
And she's all mine, my magic friend

She says: Hello, you fool, I love you
Come on join the joyride
Join the joyride

(Sorry for spamming your flist. BUT. I can't help but pity today's youth...)
