Friday afternoon round-up
It's not OK that people keep dying. This goes without saying, but it's been a terrible year for wonderful & famous people.
lost_spook posted lots of clips of Victoria Wood, including one where she met Matt Smith and discussed tea. I did not know of this, and somehow it's made the world a better place knowing that this encounter took place:
For Prince, I liked this article in The Guardian: Prince broke all the rules about what black American men should be.
Prince was willing to talk about the exploitation of the professional black artist and he refused to play anyone’s game or to act with gratitude. Choosing a symbol, (and one that fused the icons for male and female), meant journalists couldn’t even print his old name anymore. It was, in retrospect, the first time I experienced someone refusing to live under the oppressive binary regime of gender, or to submit to the dominant power’s rules.
Also photo gallery of places that have lit up purple in tribute

Thing of beauty: In other news, you have probably seen this already, but Ted Cruz whined about how ~hard~ it is running for President, and Elizabeth Warren destroyed him.
♥
~~
And tomorrow the new Companion is revealed!!
~~
That's all for now - I need to get back to work! :)

Danny was a soldier who didn't idolise the Doctor. He even called the Doctor out on his crap. Although I didn't totally agree with how he went about it.
However, Rory had to be the father of River.
Danny's death was the cause of Clara's self-destructive behavior even though he told her to grieve and move on.
RTD asked Moffat to create a character like Jack but then the storyline become how the Doctor eventually makes his champions soldiers.
Rose: You were close to her once. Now you don't even mention her.
The Doctor took Roses words to heart about Sarah Jane. It influenced how he treated Martha. Donna was there to help him cope without Rose.
The Eleventh Doctor was constantly reminded of the choices he made as Ten even when he was trying to move on.

You have a better case with Danny, although his criticism of the Doctor was also important, and a good counterpoint. Especially because he was taken seriously.

I wish we had seen how losing his only daughter when she was a baby effected Rory.
I never got over the way the Tenth Doctor dealt with Jacks immortality. Even after Harriet's death, he still pushed it with Adelaide. He certainly had his issues.
Initially I found Danny to be pretty judgemental considering that he had just met the Doctor but I guess it had to come from someone eventually.
Rory sometimes questioned the Doctor but it was mainly to do with Amy.

Wish we could have sen more of how Amy was affected too - I guess these are the problems with relatively short series and being aimed at 8 year olds... (I Love S6 but there are certainly flaws.)

Ten was, in many respects, a total jackass. Not that it wasn't consistent (he had to be right, because if he wasn't right, then maybe he'd made mistakes - like, say, kill his own people - and then were would he be?), but looked at through that lens he becomes basically insufferable.

Danny & the Doctor were very much alike, and recognised it. Neither liked it.

I read a meta explaining why Ten was an narcissist. Without a champion as his moral compass he becomes like the Master. Or any of those pompous Time Lords.
"Danny & the Doctor were very much alike, and recognised it. Neither liked it."
Is that what that was?. That makes more sense. I thought it was just a battle of the alpha-males.

Well, that too, but he was flawed from the start ('No second chances. I'm that kind of a man.') - which of course made him a very interesting character.

Oh no - Clara definitely has a type. And they did not like what that mirror said...

I wouldn't want to get on his bad side that's for sure.

The way Missy and Twelve are, its almost hard to believe what happened in series 3.
Although Missy doesn't have the "drumming" in the ears.

Best enemy. Loooong history. Also, Ten is just a mess.
The way Missy and Twelve are, its almost hard to believe what happened in series 3.
Gallifrey is saved, they're not the last. That makes a massive difference - they can go back to how they used to be, rather than the Doctor clinging to the Master quite simply because there is no one else.

The enemy of my enemy....
The Master/Missy will call a time out when theres a bigger threat.
Its hard for me to keep tabs of what happened.
They still continue to manipulate and tease the Doctor for running.

Basically they're known as 'The Enmity of Ages'. Except they love it. :)

Wow. You blow my mind!

CHANCELLOR: There is, er, there is one part of the prophecy, my Lord.
(The Chancellor brings a paper to the Lord President.)
CHANCELLOR: Forgive me, I'm sorry. It's rather difficult to decipher, but it talks of two survivors beyond the Final Day. Two children of Gallifrey.
RASSILON: Does it name them?
CHANCELLOR: It foresees them locked in their final confrontation, The Enmity of Ages, which would suggest
RASSILON: The Doctor! And the Master.
They are quite literally EPIC. :)

Actually, last time I watched it I found that EoT makes perfect sense if you think of the whole thing as Ten's regeneration-sickness-induced fever dream: somewhere, somewhen, he tripped over a brick and hit his head and was so disappointed at his anticlimactic regeneration that he dreamed of an epic universe-imperilling death sequence where he is the most important person in the universe, his angst is so tragic and full of pathos look at all the burdens on his poor shoulders, he gets final confirmation that he was right to blow up the Time Lords, the Master is staring into his eyes and wibbling about their lost childhood on Gallifrey, and the whole thing works by dream logic.
I swear, every time I watch it, it makes LESS sense. Like, I can cope with plotholes, but EoT is just these random things thrown together and not held together by ANYTHING!
However, I noticed that the Time Lords had an actual 'ship name for Doctor/Master, and thus had my friend

I'm not sure if The Day Of The Doctor makes sense either. Does Ten forget everything that happened except the Queen Liz bit?

DotD is fine! And Ten was busy courting Liz I before Eleven showed up, so it makes sense that he remembers that SOMETHING happened.
