It's not OK that people keep dying. This goes without saying, but it's been a terrible year for wonderful & famous people.

lost_spook posted lots of clips of Victoria Wood, including one where she met Matt Smith and discussed tea. I did not know of this, and somehow it's made the world a better place knowing that this encounter took place:

For Prince, I liked this article in The Guardian: Prince broke all the rules about what black American men should be.
Prince was willing to talk about the exploitation of the professional black artist and he refused to play anyone’s game or to act with gratitude. Choosing a symbol, (and one that fused the icons for male and female), meant journalists couldn’t even print his old name anymore. It was, in retrospect, the first time I experienced someone refusing to live under the oppressive binary regime of gender, or to submit to the dominant power’s rules.

NEW COMPANION TOMORROW!

I still remember that picture of Jenna Coleman in her jumper, and that interview where she talked about being in M&S and holding an avocado...

(The keyword for this icon is 'New Girl'. What will I do for the NEW new girl? Presuming it's a girl.)

Funny how they just keep coming. Though probably tomorrow we will be sitting here going 'yup, that's a person alright . . .' and then wondering when we will get set pics.

I seem to recall PC slipping up and saying the new companion was a 'her.'

The symbol issue reminds me of when George Michael had that dispute with Sony and he strayed away from the camera in his music videos.

Did Peter Capaldi want to avoid an "Adric" situation?.

I still believe it doesn't matter which gender the champion is, its the script that makes or breaks the character.

Didn't some people think it was becoming "The Rose Tyler Show"?. I think I was in that category.:)

There was also those who thought there was too much empathis on Clara.

Oh no. These were his words:

Well it WAS the Rose Tyler Show, she was squarely at the centre of everything, the hook to draw people in at the reboot.

RTD introduced Jack because they needed someone to use a gun. He wasn't ready for Rose to be a "soldier" at that stage.

I get Rose's introduction but her presence was also a major part of Martha and Donna's storylines.

The Eleventh Doctor retired from traveling after he lost the "Ponds" until he met Clara.

I still wish we could have a dude who isn't there just as some plot device.
I wouldn't call Rory or Danny plot devices.

Oh totally. (From my 'Hollow Men' meta: 'Dante saw Beatrice as a saviour, one who removed all evil intentions from him. It is perhaps this idea of her being a force for good that he fell in love with, a force which he believed made him a better person.' <- Dr & Rose) Also, going with the imprinting theory (which was confirmed, yay!) then he was like a baby duck and followed Rose... ;)

Well, he knew better than pine after someone lost, when travelling with someone new. (I love how Moffat has fixed all the problems.)

I don't mean to undermine Rory or Danny. Rory represented nurses. My grandfather was a travelling nurse and was well respected by Doctors.

Danny was a soldier who didn't idolise the Doctor. He even called the Doctor out on his crap. Although I didn't totally agree with how he went about it.

However, Rory had to be the father of River.

Danny's death was the cause of Clara's self-destructive behavior even though he told her to grieve and move on.

RTD asked Moffat to create a character like Jack but then the storyline become how the Doctor eventually makes his champions soldiers.

Rose: You were close to her once. Now you don't even mention her.

The Doctor took Roses words to heart about Sarah Jane. It influenced how he treated Martha. Donna was there to help him cope without Rose.

The Eleventh Doctor was constantly reminded of the choices he made as Ten even when he was trying to move on.
