HI LJ!

It occurred to me last night that the rest of the world doesn't get to see our adverts. And this is very sad, because some of them are just awesome. My current favourites are the ones for Moneysupermarket. The top two under the cut. Awesomeness doesn't come much better.

#EpicBuilder

Your link for Epic builder didn't work but this one does https://youtu.be/CHeQAu4_eVM

Very cute!!!! Your epic builder reminds me of the diet coke ad that ran several years ago. https://youtu.be/TdrE1VMxzoE

Thanks for sharing!!

These ads are so funny and great.

What the heck lol, those were random. :-)

[identity profile] rustydragonfly.livejournal.com 2015-08-14 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
They're so... random. yes!

This is one of my faves, an old one but good, the Rolo elephant!

These would happen to be my two most loathed adverts at the moment, especially the first one - I can't bear to even look at it as it gives me the creeps!

British Television

[identity profile] eprosper-photo.livejournal.com 2015-08-14 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I adore British humor and watch a lot of British television. I've been wanting to watch Channel 4 for the longest time and finally got a VPN and found a way to log in as a resident. I saw the EpicStrut commercial while watching a few shows and seriously lost my shit. I wish people would lighten up and allow more of this kind of humor. I loved EpicBuilder!! Thanks for sharing these.

Those are both random and fun XD

VERY funny and thanks for sharing. They're not just funny, they brilliantly spoof how ridiculous it is when advertising uses women in similar scenarios.

I love the first one, especially the reactions of the people in the streets.

I LOVE the epic builder one!

Epic builder is my fave. I also loved the Kit-Kat PEACE!AND!LOVE! one. My fave advert is from a long time ago, the 80s, for Heinz spaghetti. A little boy is eating his dinner: he points to the fried egg and says "that's the sun". Dad: "Really?" Boy: "Yeah, and that's the mountains" *points to the pieces of toast* Dad: "Right... and the Heinz spaghetti must be...?" Boy: "The sea!" Dad: "And this must be a boat then!" Boy: *puzzled* "No, it's a sausage."

Hmmm..the Brits don't have the same gender issues the Americans appear to have.. interesting. No, we don't have commercials like that. I wish we had your commercials, I would fast-forward less.

OMFreakingG!!! *GLEES* THAT WAS TRULY EPIC!! Hee!! I can't decide which I like better!! I'm just...FLOORED, lol!!

Damn I wish my country wasn't so silly and uptight in OHSOMANYWAYS!!

*Happy!Squishes!!*

THIS. OMG...

It may be difference in sense of humor? I prefer the British sense of humor to the American (which appears to be much broader and cruder). Particularly in regards to satire, the British seem to be more biting, yet subtle, while American is more...over-the-top.

Example?

I often found Monty Python hilarious, but Saturday Night Live has always been a bit hit or miss for me.

I think those ads are a bit 'marmite'. I hate them and if I even needed such a site I would avoid that one on principle!

My favourite at the moment is the Lloyds one especially the scene with the bride and her dad, near the end.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2015-08-15 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the marmite thing - they go over the line into stupid for me.*

I am very rarely persuaded to buy anything by the adverts - but there are quite a few that make me resolve to never buy what they advertise!

The Lloyds one I like ( at least as much for the music as for the pictures and story) is the 250 years one - doesn't have much effect on my choices though as I've banked with them for about 30 years anyway.

*I would definitely have voted for the New Zealand Bakery of the year if I'd been able to...

The guy in the first one certainly knew how to strut his stuff :D

And I think you'd enjoy this Finnish ad that gives a twist to the cliche'd "their eyes meet at a coffeeshop" ad:

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2015-08-15 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, of course, the Lloyds one is all about 250 years of black horses because it has been their logo for most, or possibly all their 250 years.

I've been thinking about what annoys me so much about the 'Brian' ad in particular, and I realised it was because we complain, rightly, about the objectification of women, and so we shouldn't condone it when done to men, even if it is tongue in cheek. The pole dancing one is better, from my point of view, simply because it has, in the main, replaced the Brian one!

But really nothing can beat the Guinness rugby ads or the New Zealand baking one, so the rest should just give up trying :)

I've looked for the Heinz Spaghetti one on YouTube but no luck so far.
