More re-watch...
Hello! I'm still here, just in lurker mode. Hopefully I'll get round to a 'proper' update at some point!
Our S1 re-watch is continuing - don't have much to say about 'The Pack' except NB is very good and the big difference between Hyena!Xander and ordinary being-a-jackass-Xander lies in the fact that Xander can do/say awful things, but they're usually in reaction to something else or he's lashing out because he's hurting. Xander doesn't do caluculated cruelty.
Watched 'Angel' last night and DB must have been getting some acting lessons, because he's very watchable. And of course Darla finally gets interesting before they kill her off... (how I love this 'verse where characters never stay dead!). Not many thoughts, but what there were decided to turn into a little 250 word drabble set near the end (sort of a FitB I suppose, not that anything happens):
Dust
He killed her.
His goddess; his mentor; his perfect mistress for 150 years... she exploded into dust and scattered over the dance floor of a small-town club and his demon howled.
Silently he walked out of The Bronze, with only the briefest of glances over his shoulder. His mind was too crowded with memories for him to speak with anyone living.
Many, many years ago Angel killed his mother, delighting in the look of pure terror before he tore out her throat. His mother had given him life, a life he had squandered, never understanding what a fool he was. When his soul had been returned, her face was the first he remembered and he’d felt sick at what he had done; guilt choking him for a century.
And now... now he had killed his Sire - the woman who had given him unlife. His Darla who had taught him everything - who had been his everything from the beginning. And now she was dust. Because of a young girl with fearlessness in her eyes.
The Slayer inspired feelings in him that he had never known before - he thought it might be love. He didn’t understand it, but knew that it was dangerous, because death followed him.
Angel had finally made his choice - going against his nature, his family, his fears - and he no longer had blood on his hands; only dust. And after everything, he discovered that Darla had one last lesson to impart, as surprising as it was acute.
Grief.

Awww.... *hugs Girlpire*
Once I had all of BtVS we (as in Darcy and I) started a re-watch, and it was the first time I'd watched it all in order after seeing AtS, which just made Angel much more interesting. The B/A is sweet, but just very... new, and Angel is clearly rather thrown by it all. And then there's all the Angel/Darla stuff which just turned me into the happiest little 'shipper (again). :) (And it's clear that Buffy just doesn't get how painful it is for Angel at all. Poor Angel.)
Oh - and thanks for reading! *g* I think this is the only Angel/Darla I've written, sadly.

i know! that just makes it worse - he's made this gigantic sacrifice to protect her and she doesn't even get it. and that's always happening to angel. like in IWRY when he's the only one who remembers, and the whole thing with connor and W&H. it's no wonder the man was disappointed when he wasn't mentioned in the newspaper article about saving the actress' life or when wesley got all the attention in "guise will be guise." it's because angel never gets credit for anything! like when he saves the day in "couplet" and tries to give groo the credit and then groo credits him right back but all cordelia can focus on is groo!
i'm getting all worked up, and i shouldn't. i like that angel never gets credit. it makes him more of a hero to me, that he does these things at often significant cost to himself and very little compensation. just because it's right. he wouldn't be angel if he tried to explain to buffy just how big a deal staking his sire was.
he'd be spike. heh.

*pets him*

But then on the other hand he has a tendency to make big, life-altering decision for others, without their consent, so in many cases is it credit he misses out on, or blame? (Just to point out his not insignificant flaws. But then without them he'd just be Groo, who's nice, but bland.)
he'd be spike. heh.
And she still didn't get it! (I wrote an essay on 'Crush' once... *g*)

would you call it a tendency, really? i only specifically remember this happening once. but then i may be repressing. :)

Well first of all I guess it's just part of his MO as Angelus - see Dru specifically - but later there's breaking up with Buffy, firing his friends, giving Connor a new life (without consulting the team) and of course his plan to take down the Black Thorn.
And that's all I have time for right now! I'm not saying it's a bad thing necessarily - I like it because it is usually a two-edged thing. He's incredibly self-sacrificing and arrogant at the same time. :)
