Bad day.

Today was a bad day for fandom.

- I woke up to discover that delicious has been bought and destroyed. It's still there, but tag bundles are gone, and subscriptions are gone and I have no idea where my stuff is. :( Thankfully, [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle has a MAGIC DELICIOUS EXPORTING SOLUTION. Still, where do I go from here? Where do I PUT things? *cries*

- And then BBC3 announced that they're axing Doctor Who Confidential. *sigh* I can understand that they have to cut SOMETHING, but... Can't they cut some of the really rubbish shows they keep making?

Basically my reaction to both these items is the same:

Pinboard is totally your friend if you can spare the cash. They're taking suggestions from fandom right now on ways to improve it. Diigo may be a bust because they don't like adult content. Google bookmarks is also good as a stopgap.

There's a link round-up here (http://deliciouslymad.livejournal.com/21726.html) and a growing list of fannish users and their varying accounts here. (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoR0vrg5fIdOdF9jSWJUcmRBaVpZQ1Z1Q0J2bm1uS1E&hl=en_US#gid=0)

I'd heard warnings about delicious ages ago, so fortunately I made the switch to google bookmarks about a month ago. I tried digg as well, but really disliked it--and google bookmarks has, in my opinion, a better direct transfer from delicious bookmarks (I was able to just "log in" through the google bookmarks site and it automatically transferred them).

It all depends on how you feel about google I guess ;)

I'm gutted about DW Confidential. :(

What was delicious??? Should I feel aggrieved even though I never used it?

Fortunately I didn't have that many bookmarks on Delicious, but I can't believe how they have basically destroyed the site. I'm pondering options about where to put my bookmarks now. Sigh...

I could kick Delicious right now. Although I exported my fannish/personal bookmarks to diigo, I am bummed. Reason? I use diigo only for research, so now my work/personal bookmarks are inextricably mixed. :-(

+ I've had an account at Diigo for about a year with lots of NC-17 links without a problem. My Delicious links transferred over just fine and the sites are very similar in use.

+ The customer service guy I dealt with at Pinboard was HILARIOUS (in a good way, very jokey and clever).

+ Delicious IS planning on fixing the current problems, including restoring the tagging system and such: http://deliciousengineering.blogspot.com/

From what delicious says on their blog, all the features everyone loves (tag bundles, subscriptions, etc) should come back soonish. So I think I'll give them a few days before trying to move everything! though backup is good too....

I'm afraid my complaints wouldn't register much, lol, given that I'm on the other side of the ocean. But I was just thinking the other day about how awesome it was that there was a show about every episode of a show. If they stopped going around places (trips and tours), and just made it about behind the scenes, I can't imagine it could cost that much, since it's basically just cameras following around DW people that are already doing things.
