So, it turns out that I like sub-textual frosting...
Pre-view for #37.
The subject line (for those puzzled by it) is a reference to this post by the inimitable Barb, and basically means that I am a total sucker for Spuffiness.
(Shut up. I have ZERO expectations that it's going anywhere, but... *deep sigh* They're so good together.)

Any Spuffy worth their salt will do back flips for crumbs. It's what we do best. :) I'm happy to perform tricks if it gets me more of this fantastic interaction. This is gold, baby. THIS IS MY SHIP.
Buffy and Angel can have the world-ending sex. I'll gladly take Buffy and Spike in comfortable, unselfconscious repose - talking like grown ups who respect and trust each other. My ship is sailing along JUST FINE.
Go, ship, go!

I've never taken the trouble to look at a comic in RL, let alone buy one. My disinterest in comics generally has stood me in good stead too, going by what I've read about them on LJ. My impression of the comics is that many elements of the story line seem utterly preposterous and completely disconnected from the canon of the show in plot and characterization. I'm not familiar with what Spike's role has been so far, nor have I read what Joss apparently had to say about it. Nevertheless, it feels as if I've gotten the gist of it, which is to say, it's disappointing (big surprise). This only reinforces my skepticism of any crumbs he ever deigns to toss our way.

TOTALLY my pleasure!
And as for the comics? You're pretty spot-on. Despite the fun stuff we're getting now, on the whole they've been pretty awful. (And I have in my time loved some comic books to distraction, so it's not the medium!)

::is beyond repair::
in my head they've been together for years, anyway.

And we're definitely on the same page re. where they're at. Mmmm Spuffy...
Spuffy is pretty dammit!
:)
Re: Spuffy is pretty dammit!
And having zero expectations is actually working out pretty well, since everything positive is a bonus!

Those panels are just win. The snark, the back-and-forth, and is it completely crazy that I actually SEE the chemistry bouncing off the pages?
And HOW much do I love that in one panel, Buffy's resting her head on the back of the chair and just, *staring* at Spike.
Clearly I am a deluded, over-optimistic shipper. Whatever. Subtext FTW.

Tho I read tons of fic, somehow this feeds that part of me that would desperately love to "see" them together one more time (but there is no end to that really).
Though in my mind they have been together for years as someone else said (and thanks Barb, and you other talented fanfic writers out there for providing many hours of enjoyment along those lines.) I hadn't seen the cake and broccoli post either and that made me laugh out loud so thanks for that too.

Well you chosen an opportune time to have a peek! It's been dross these last 3-4 years... (Well Xander/Dracula was fun, but otherwise? Nah.)
I have to say, that I feel an unexpected and almost guilty pleasure - just seeing them interact, and just the fact that they are in the same room together give me a (sad? pathetic?) little thrill.
That's EXACTLY what I mean! *is hopeless shipper*
Although I too see them as having been together for years by now, so it's all weird an unexpected. But fun. Hurrah for broccoli cake!

I have this crazy desire now, next time I get to see James Marsters, to bake my virtually carb-free chocolate cupcakes and offer some to him in exchange for him reading out that line as Spike and letting me tape it so I can use it as my ringtone. :D
I'm with you on the not really expecting this to go anywhere at all, but I am just stupidly happy that they seem so comfortable and natural with each other. This is a partnership, not just a relationship.

If you do this YOU MUST SHARE!!!

*nods a lot* I'm always reminded of
Besides, I suspect Buffy/Angel shippers either have a different concept of love to mine, or a different concept of what they want from a fictional love story. I can't argue with that.
All I can say is when I think of some of the key scenes each of them share, I think of them this way.
When I think of Buffy and Angel, they are always standing opposite one another, face-to-face. They are looking only at each other, caught in the moment, still, timeless, static.
When I think of Buffy and Spike, most often they are side by side. I think of the back doorstep in Fool For Love, in Flooded, the moment he sits down beside her in Touched, the night he holds her while she lies awake in Chosen.
That says it all for me.
