Some good things & a bit of natter about s8.

First of all, today is a good day because this afternoon the new season of Horrible Histories starts! For those of you not in the UK/without children, this is a TV show based on the popular books, and it one of the best, funniest and most original things on TV, full stop. Since I couldn't decide which part to share with you, here is the very first thing I saw:

Now go on and waste a few hours on youtube.... You won't regret it, trust me. (It's EDUCATIONAL!!!)

***

Since time is sadly not my friend I've not paid much attention to the remix, but here are a couple of recs:

I Would Keep Myself (Mirror Mirror Remix) by [livejournal.com profile] ruuger (notes here). They didn't win the battle, but life still has to go on. Post-Chosen AU. Bleak, yet uplifting, and explores things rarely seen.

Through the Wardrobe (The Three Worlds Remix) by [livejournal.com profile] joking. The wardrobe is a gateway to another world - and to memories we cannot bear to forget. Narnia/BtVS/Doctor Who crossover, and just works, beautifully so! (I happened to beta-read this one, which mostly involved me going 'Oh wow, this is good!)

'Bout s8. This is from a comment I made in [livejournal.com profile] simonf's LJ, using Riley's speech in AYW:

Me to Buffy: "You want me to say that I liked seeing you in bed with fucking in space with that idiot? Or that blinding orange is your very best color wearing revealing outfits half the time doesn't demean you? Or that that ... burger smell bankrobbing is appealing? Buffy, none of that means anything. It doesn't touch you. You're still the first woman I ever loved ... and the strongest woman I've ever known."

Because here's the thing. Quality lasts. Buffy was just voted 3rd greatest character of the last 20 years (behind Homer Simpson and Harry Potter!). BtVS is classic television, and Buffy is a household name. So, right now we've got these comics cluttering things up, but I truly believe that as time goes by they'll sink into obscurity just like the movie. (I kinda love the movie, I have to confess. It's dumb, but adorably so. The comics are just crap, and will thus die. *nods*)

And that's all for now. It's Bank Holiday Monday and we're going out...

I 100% agree with both comments! The movie is just fun to go back to and I love how there are kernals of the show in the movie. I also agree that regarding the comics - "this too shall pass."

(And yay, Buffy's #3! Love EW)

I loved the 'Horrible Histories' books. I was always into history, and their take on it just cracked me up!

Thanks for the rec :)

It's true, it's true. :( They're like AYW on steroids.

That Horrible Histories clip was hilarious, my favorite kind of humor.

I'm right there with you on both counts. I actually really liked the movie and it's the reason I started watching the show with the first episode when it came out... I was really hoping that we'd get all that wonderful, snarky dialogue with the premise I liked but without the high camp. Worked out pretty well!

But yeah... in the end, far fewer people are ever even going to hear about the comics, much less read them.

I've never heard of horrible histories, but that one you link to is a hoot. I'll have to head over to youtube this morning and look for more!

I miss Buffy. I know, cliched sentiment. But where are the strong, capible, nuanced women on TV these days? Which is probably why i'm rewatching the X-files...

Do you guy have netflix on-demmand, or something similar? They have the whole series. The later seasons get pretty lame IMO. I lost interest about the time they moved the show from Vancouver to LA. But the early seasons rock like a rocking thing!

I'm a fan of netflix on-demmand. I have a computer-- a referbed mac min I put a much bigger HD into-- attached to my TV and watch that way. I actually did it for Children of Earth, but i'd been thinking about it for a while.

At least here we can also run netflix on-demmand with game systems too; my friend uses his wii.

Now off to the new Doctor Who!

I'm sadly spoiled for a key plot development. ::sobs::
