DW 5.03. Victory of the Daleks.
Not a lot of thoughts tonight. Dunno why. If I get any brilliant insights later, I'll let you know. (I've only watched it once, so you never know...)
- He calls her Pond! (And she continues to be awesome!)
- Love makes us human, not pain. (Oh Doctor! And Amy continues to be the perfect person for him right now!)
- He doesn't give Amy her own key. Interesting.
- Bob!!! (If you've not read Torchwood Babiez (
tw_babiez) you should do so now. Or sooner! And does anyone know where there are icons?)
- Jammie Dodger ftw! (It looked like a jam ring to me, although it was probably just historically correct...) And "Don't mess with me, sweetheart" was, without a doubt, the line of the episode!
- Dalek with tea tray! (This was *so* an Old Who shoutout. You see, in the very time the First Doctor met the Daleks, they kept him and his companions prisoners, and brought them food on a tray. FOUND A PICTURE! Many thanks to Sam.)
- Scottish Scientist was the sweetest thing ever.
- Amy does not remember the Daleks! The plot thickens! There is a crack in time! (I don't care to speculate, to be honest. I'm just excited. And abusing exclamation marks.)
- Mostly though... the Daleks are back! And (The Daleks in Manhattan apart, and that one is odd every way you look at it) every time they've appeared the Doctor has *defeated* them. (ALL of them OMG! They're all DEAD and GONE and will NEVER RETURN EVER! Trufax!) But - this time they got away, bigger and stronger and more multi coloured than ever. This could be interesting. *ponders*
- Oh, and like
selenak mentioned last week, it was nice to see that it was 'the good guys' using Daleks.
ETA: There's all sorts of things about the choices the Doctor makes (and the callback to 'Dalek' and Nine were obviously there), but I just can't... well, think. I'm sure someone else will do a fantastic job unravelling everything, and I promise to link you!
Preview: River!!! (Eps 4 & 5 will be a two parter, yes? I expect them to be better than all the previous 4 & 5 two parters, if nothing else then because of River. Not that the standard is high...)

True. Also, thought: last time the Daleks turned up, we saw stars going out. Darkness. Now, their worst weapon is turning on the lights. And the crack in reality is bleeding light.
Also, there were at least two more rather explicit continuity nods (apart from him telling Churchill to "exterminate" them, like Nine): the Doctor beating a Dalek up with a wrench is very similar (though far less efficient) to Ace beating up a Dalek with a baseball bat in "Remembrence of the Daleks" (where Seven ended up committing genocide and blowing up a planet), and the Doctor having to make a choice that will impact all that happens in the future isn't unlike Four's decision in "Genesis of the Daleks".

LOL!
And the crack in reality is bleeding light.
So it is...

Yes, Ace definitely came to mind (even though I only know about her and her baseball bat of DOOM from fandom), although I'm not sure about Genesis of the Dalkes - was that where he could have stopped them from ever being created? Because that would have broken all sorts of time rules...

Yup:
"Hundreds of millions of people, thousands of generations can live without fear, in peace, and never even know the word 'Dalek'." Like Amy, then, hmmm?

But the price was his morals, not all of Earth... (Still, excellent scene!)
Like Amy, then, hmmm?
Indeed. Hmmmmm. I love arcs! :)
