Much goodness! :)

First of all Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] fraidycatx3! Hope you have a wonderful day! *hugs*

Then there is this Comic Con report (spoilers for s8), wherein we learn that 'Ripper' will happen! *does happy dance*

The most exciting news of all: Ripper is in effect! Ripper is the long-discussed story of Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) pre-Buffy. Who knows whether or not this plot will stay the same, but Head is on board as is the BBC, which is planning to film the story as one 90 minute TV movie.

Also there is a black-and-white preview of issue 6 of S8. And... if I hadn't read that stupid summary I'd be really excited. Because it looks *great* and - most shocking of all! - Jeanty's Faith looks like Faith. *is stunned*

But - it is Sunday morning and I have children to sort out. Still - it is a *good* morning, because the sky is blue and the sun is shining. It actually looks like summer.

See you all later, and I'll post my (rather shallow) 'Shadow Puppets 2' thoughts tomorrow! :)

Not having had a problem with the idea that Faith might want to retire that was less of an issue to me. But I think it would make for a more character as opposed to theme based story if Faith being assigned to the *dirty* jobs were shown to be as much to do with her tendency to play the *dirty* girl (because of her underlying insecurities about that being who she really is) as the Watchers and other Slayers taking that self-projection at face value. Evil authoritarian Watchers and bonding with Angel over Daddy's manpain are places they've been to so many times, I'd rather see something new. Giles setting Faith up against high class educated evil, and her learning that she can play them at their own game? They could both be learning something.

I just can't see Faith deciding that she is 'redeemed' after a few years of doing good work. It's a day-by-day thing, like being an alcoholic...
As pointed out at the time, killing demons with her bare hands isn’t the only type of good work Faith is capable of, as metaphors go, she doesn’t have to get a day-by-day job in a bar.

Up for a good time if necessary, but nowhere near her wild days in S3...
I think the issues she has now are more class related. The lack of education, which came up before anything else did on her first night with Robin, and the tendency to see herself as hard as in “well ‘ard.” Street-hardened, able to take on the dirty jobs the young and innocent balk at because she’s already soiled goods, been there done that, can’t be fazed. She has trouble believing she can be ‘the good Slayer’ and she’s still scared of letting people down should they ever get the notion that she’s worth looking up to.

Oh but Angel has been doing exactly what Giles might be planning - using people ruthlessly. Having Lorne kill Lindsey f.ex. So it might be a lot more complex...
Or all about Angel. Again. I’m sorry but it would take an awful lot to get me interested in the Angel and/or Spike show. I’m just hoping Joss’s interest in Illyria and possibly Dead!Wesley can save the book.

God, yes! If it turns out to be the Illyria Show, you won't see me for dust.
