First of all Happy Birthday fraidycatx3! Hope you have a wonderful day! *hugs*

Then there is this Comic Con report (spoilers for s8), wherein we learn that 'Ripper' will happen! *does happy dance*

The most exciting news of all: Ripper is in effect! Ripper is the long-discussed story of Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) pre-Buffy. Who knows whether or not this plot will stay the same, but Head is on board as is the BBC, which is planning to film the story as one 90 minute TV movie.

Also there is a black-and-white preview of issue 6 of S8. And... if I hadn't read that stupid summary I'd be really excited. Because it looks *great* and - most shocking of all! - Jeanty's Faith looks like Faith. *is stunned*

But - it is Sunday morning and I have children to sort out. Still - it is a *good* morning, because the sky is blue and the sun is shining. It actually looks like summer.

While I'm all for a Giles movie, it's not just DB and JM who are getting older. I have a hard time seeing how they'd make ASH believable as a 20-something Ripper. Unless they plan on re-casting young Giles and doing flash-forwards to the present with ASH...?

Has it been explicitly stated that Ripper is a prequel, or did the OP simply assume it was? Because I always thought (based on Giles' speech about making new friends in "Flooded") that it would take place in the "now"?

Joss has not said anything about when it'll be set, so we'll have to wait and see...

I've been wondering about that too. But apparently *Joss* didn't say anything about it being pre-Buffy, so who knows?
