I should say that he's glowing in that video, and he looks happy and healthy and that is what I want for him, but still. Curse you, linear time.

It is amazing how infant mortality is so much rarer since the advent of vaccines (and clean water and sanitation). You only have to look at how many children died if you walk around Victorian graveyards to realise that children today have a far greater chance of living past their fifth birthday. It's so much better across the world now that vaccines are available to more people.

*nods a lot* And I think a lot of the anti-vax stuff has come about because people don't remember how bad it was. The thing that stood out mostly from the whole article was this:

The measles vaccine, in particular, deserves pride of place in this story. The researchers conclude that it averted 93.7 million deaths from 1974 onward, accounting for the most deaths averted by vaccines in general.

That is SO MANY CHILDREN!
