In other news then Darcy has covid. Guess it's a sign of the times that my main reaction is that this is very inconvenient, and being annoyed that I had to work from home for the last two days. (I mean, it makes sense to stay away from people, but working from home is just inconvenient when everyone else is in the office...) Anyway, he's doing as well as can be expected, and better than previous occasions /I hope I have not jinxed it

He seems better than previous bouts. It's possible I had it, but a co-worker had flu (she thinks) and another had a cold and I got my flu shot which behaved like a covid shot and put me in bed for day (a Saturday, thankfully), so honestly who knows. I definitely had a cold-like thing. Also some of his students have had covid... Considering there is no masking or social distancing, it is indeed inevitable.

Anyway, thank you for the well wishes, and apologies for my rambling.

The Barbie film makes me think - I tortured my Barbies. I liked to tell adventure stories with them, and have them kidnapped (usually by one of my cats), and/or rescuing the Ken doll. They were kind of mangled with cut hair by the time I reached the fifth or sixth grade.

Something tells me this movie isn't going to go the adventure route.

Considering the trailer used 2001 as it's main reference point, I'd say all bets are off. I doubt it'll be a rehash of the animated TV show (although Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse is hilarious) and I could definitely see it go down the adventure road. Mind you, the writers (Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach) are known for making odd movies, rather then blockbusters, so I couldn't say which direction it will go...

I don't know about odd movies - so much as movies that focus on satirically dysfunctional families, and messed up relationships. (I've seen most of their films, and well...mixed. They both like satire, but they also like dysfunctional angsty and emotionally abusive relationship satire.)

But the trailer is definitely an eye-catcher. May depend on how much people love satire?

I meant something different from say the MCU - chewy, character-driven movies rather than ones full of spectacle.

And I have a feeling that people love satire very much indeed. :)
