Lockdown Update Day 204
Does anyone else have such severe Covid trauma that when they watch movies and TV, even old ones, they sometimes catch themselves thinking “these people are too close to each other, they’re up in each other’s faces”
— pat tobin (@tastefactory) October 7, 2020
I don't know that I would describe it as 'trauma', more just an awareness of how the current situation is now deeply embedded in how I interact with the world. WHY ARE YOU SO CLOSE TOGETHER? WHY DO YOU KEEP TOUCHING?
Anyway, here's some good news:
GOOD NEWS FOR EVERYONE CRUSHED TO DISCOVER THAT THE CORDELIA MOVIE IS NOT A SEXY HISTORICAL WITH A DOMINANT WOMAN

The *poster* for the movie is going to be a Yuletide fandom!https://t.co/nxET59BHDk
If you're not familiar, this is it:

ETA: Re. American politics... My whole Twitter feed is echoing this sentiment:
I don’t care if you love Kamala or hate Kamala or are somewhere in between. Watching her make Mike Pence bawl like she did to Brett Kavanaugh will be better than drugs.

And the thing is, I remember when the poster was released and everyone was flailing because it was so hot. And then people discovered that a) it wasn't a period drama and b) it was supposed to be unsettling, not exciting, and promptly decided that the original interpretation was far superior to whatever the film actually was.

But BETTER!
(More seriously, it makes clear how rarely we see this sort of imagery that everyone jumped on it, yet it's supposed to be for a horror movie. Hmmmm...)
*nods a lot* We are not used to seeing dominant women, and clearly whoever created the poster did not understand what the dynamic could be read as...

Yes, I've been watching General Hospital - a US Soap, and I know it is taping now, and the episodes are filmed during COVID, and that they are taking precautions, like wearing green masks that are digitized out.
But...watching how close they are. Seeing them without masks (because there's no pandemic in the soap's world), is unnerving. Today, I watched them do a funeral, and I spent half the time telling myself - they are wearing masks in that place, this is clever camera work - and photo-shopping, also they've all been tested. Stop worrying about them.

And for some reason...I thought it was a movie about Cordy in Angel the Series. I don't know why. Then my mind went to King Lear. I know nothing about this movie. But the poster is hot.

ETA: Just found the movie - that poster is VERY misleading. The movie is a horror film, but the poster looks like a hot historical romance. What are they thinking? I was disappointed when I looked at the trailer. Why do I want to watch another horror film about a woman going insane, and increasingly paranoid thinking she's being stalked? I want a sexy historical film about a take charge woman sexually seducing a guy. So apparently does fandom. I agree with fandom!

*nods* It's a primal sort of response.

Cordelia is a very unusual name, so yeah, both those associations are perfectly logical. I don't know anything about the movie either, but love the poster.

Fandom knows what's what. I hadn't looked up the movie, just seen that it was NOT what the poster advertised. :(

Psychological horror film with sexual/gender violence undertones. Watch trailer - it shows how far apart the poster and the film truly are. Whomever was in charge of marketing this movie - royally screwed up.

Although I guess the poster was very successful in generating interest. Just not in representing what the movie is about...

With older stuff, I mostly notice (and am jealous) when people just freely touch their face.

Ah yes. Although that also happens when watching people on the news - why are they touching their face??

IT MEEEEE! I feel so weird when I see people on live television being very close without masks. I worry!
That Cordelia movie poster ... wow! Firstly I also thought it was historical, but then I looked better and you can see how modern the actors are dressed. Anyway, SUPER-HOT.
