So, finished S14 of Classic Who, meaning I am 3/7 of the way through the Fourth Doctor. (He is endless and forever...) And just sometimes you come across stuff that, well. Let me illustrate:
THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: What are you doing?
RYAN: Fighting back.
THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: No. Guns, never use 'em.
Never? Really Doctor? Never?? I mean, the show is littered with examples, but this one is just a corker:
DOCTOR: Professor, you don't happen to have an elephant gun, do you?
LITEFOOT: Elephants? Why on Earth do you want an elephant gun?
DOCTOR: We're about to embark on a very dangerous mission.
LITEFOOT: Well, I've a Chinese fowling piece if that's any good. Used for duck, mainly.
LOOK AT IT:

To be fair, he wants it for shooting giant rats, but still... That gun is almost as big as him!!!
OTOH

Mind you, someone (on a podcast I think. Verity maybe?) observed that it's not that the Doctor doesn't USE weapons, the point is that he isn't *armed*. Which is a nice and important distinction.
~~~
What else? Oh yes, we watched The Great Gatsby last night (the Baz Luhrman version), which was pretty much exactly what I expected, but I like the more-is-more aesthetic and how every frame is just exquisite and over saturated, so it's a thumbs up for me.
This trailer has been one of my favourite things for a long time, and the movie is pretty much exactly that. And ye gods, the power of money (old and new) hasn't changed at all...
~~~
Finally, a very silly MCU tweet:
(No Endgame spoilers.)

i asked my roommate to name all of the marvel characters, she’s seen a good number of the movies but still doesn’t know anybody’s names and she said she feels like a failure pic.twitter.com/PPf3H7dzqi

I rather liked Luhrman's Gatsby. The sort of larger-than-life approach worked for that story. Plus, if you're going to remake a movie, do it in a way that stands out.

Indeed. :)

Yes, very much so. And DiCaprio was very good. It's a beautiful and brutal film.

I know my maths is bad, but that means you have done S12, 13 & 14 and have S15, S16, S17 and S18 to go, and even if some of them are shorter seasons, there's still surely something not right there. ;-p
I'm glad you're enjoying Four!
With the guns, it was Seven who gave up on them, so I suppose we should blame him. *hugs Seven*

... Yes, I was thinking 'I have four left!' Clearly Bank Holidays are not good for my brain. (Thank you!)

He's Four! I don't think it's possible not to like him.

But then he had a companion who made stuff explode. And is BY FAR the most destructive of the Classic Doctors. As someone said (and I think I'll go back & add this), it's not that the Doctor doesn't use weapons, but he's never *armed*.

I claimed Doctor Who was 66 the other day, so believe me I've not got a brain cell left to talk with here... ;-D

Don't give fandom/humanity challenges like that! You can absolutely rely on the fact that there'll be some people out there who can't stand him, or are blah about him. I have met some over the years.
But, yeah. He is iconic for a reason.

My immediate thought to that was 'No, like 2000+, so...'

Good point. But he is VERY good. I don't know if he's my favourite, but he is just very watchable.

Sorry, that was a tangent. Yes, the Doctor with a gun. It happens. Quite often.
ETA: Realised I forgot to say how delightful the vid is. THANK YOU.

I should skip ahead and watch some Five. I've been slowly working my way through Three, whom I like, but I got bogged down in the middle of the interminable "The Mutants."

I hear ya. Unless you can do some ironing or knitting or something whilst watching? Just to help get you through it?

*thinks back to when Ten spent 10 minutes pointing a gun at the Master and Rassilon while constantly removing and restoring the safety catch* Well, technically he didn't use it, but STILL... *thinks about Eleven in A Town Called Mercy* Again, technically didn't shoot anyone...
I love the Baz Luhrmann Great Gatsby, it's so full on. The parties are absolutely perfect.
That Tweet is way too funny. XD

Hence bringing up Rule 1, cause otherwise... (And watching the old show is just fascinating. I mean, he's SO YOUNG, but part of that is that he has so few hang-ups, hence asking for an elephant gun.)

It's like being inside a snow globe? Everything is just swirling and magical.
That Tweet is way too funny. XD
I relate to it VERY HARD.

But yes...the Doctor lies.
The 'trap' with Weeping Angels and the gravity ball come to mind too. No, he doesn't carry a weapon (another lie, as the sonic could be used as one in the wrong hands), but he can USE them as tools if need be. The distinction is tricksy, but important, yes. :D
Och...just remembered A Town Called Mercy. Ow. Not a good look...but technically, he didn't USE the gun. *winces*
*HUGS*

I do love the goofy name tweet. I've seen it before but it is always fun.

There probably are ways and means, but don't fret too much - it's very hit & miss, so it's not like missing out on early Eleven. <3

He's a tricks-y guy... (gal) (well, not terrible tricksy as a gal, which is something I hope they improve)

juniperphoenix linked to this delightful vid over on the DW side (NSFW!!). The Doctor 'doesn't use guns'! HA! (And knowing the majority of those clips in context... Only a few are misleading, or not what they seem.)
*MANY HUGS BACK*

Indeed. Well, the modern Doctor, certainly. :)
