This does seem a bit different. Jenny, Vastra and Jack are all definitely queer but were not full time companions. Clara was full time, but they never (AFAIK) showed her in a relationship with another woman. I'm assuming, since Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy, and Clara were all shown with a multi-episode romantic arc that we'll be getting one for Bill as well.
(Obviously she'll still be queer regardless of whether or not she's in any sort of relationship, but from a representation/visibility perspective I would like to see that.)
Anyway, props to Moffat for this, and for his efforts in laying ground for a female Doctor. (This is re: the post you linked a few days ago.) I get frustrated with him fairly often but I can appreciate the good stuff he does as well.
