You should read this.

Progressive
Let’s start, this time, with a story. This is about Hillary Clinton – everything I write seems to be about her these days – but it’s about me, too. It’s about what it means, to be a feminist, or a woman on the left, and whether it matters. So before I get to her, let’s give you a good look at me.

No matter how much of a Bernie Sanders supporter you may be (or a Republican, even), or how much you may dislike Hillary Clinton - please read it.

And you'll see why these things were what sprang to mind:

'It was usually an effective tactic, another one of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. They were more than satisfied; they were relieved - such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn't seem angry all the time.'

Also important in this context: Beyonce's Super Bowl performance. Although she is black AND a woman and she dares to be angry. Good on her.

Yeah, that essay is very important. Very. I hadn't seen that excerpt from Obama before... it really hits hard.

Beyoncé was amazing (and the conservative media in the US is foaming at the mouth over her).

Yes, agreed, Obama and Clinton know what it is to have to smile and smile and SMILE through your clenched teeth.

Trump needs a smack.

Here's Bruno Mars and Beyoncé's performance

That essay is so important - very enlightening :)

Great essay. I can't vote for Hillary (I'm not American) but I vote for pretty much every female leader on the left in every election. Because fuck you, that's why.

I know! If Trump actually gets elected, how long before he starts World War 3? All it would take is one pissing contest between him and Putin, and they'd start lobbing nuclear missiles at each other.

I like this post that I saw on Facebook:

It does a good job of showing how Hillary is the best candidate, without discussing gender or making it about gender.

I understand why people prefer Bernie Sanders, but I think Hillary will make the better president. I think she knows the fine art of compromise, which is absolutely necessary in this political climate. I will definitely read that article.

(And how proud of my husband am I that he's super on board with Hillary?)

I heard people were upset about Beyonce and I wasn't sure why. Now I've read that article and ... well I'm still not clear why these people are upset! Are they blind? Do they not see the mess this country is in? The racism, the abuse of power? Yeah, I think that was a hell of a performance and these morons who are upset merely drive home the point that America has a LOT of issues it needs to stop pretending it has sorted.

Supergirl!.

I know the main target audience is young girls but I watch it because I needed to balance out the angst I see from other shows about superheroes.

Anyway. People will be judged by a sterotype if they come from a certain cultural background or social status. In some cases it's a double standard issue between men and women.

I wish I could put it to those who have a problem with people who are different to them!.

What is the reasoning behind all of it?.

[identity profile] cynthia2015.livejournal.com 2016-02-12 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Supergirl is a show that isn't scared to make fun of itself and sends positive feminist message to young women. It's not perfect but its not bad viewing if you want to let an hour pass by. Clark communicates with Kara via text whenever she needs moral support, if she's not already getting it from her older foster sister.

I've experience my fair share of racism whist growing up. I was born in Australia, with an Indonesian background. What annoyed me however was that they never got my nationality right. I didn't know whether to be insulted or to correct them. Their arrogance is what made them think they had more right to be in Australia than me.

I almost had an older sister but my mum had a miscarriage. I'm thankful that I have a brother that looks for me. Some people don't get along with their siblings.

When Martha Jones had to deal with racism, it took me back my own experiences.

My mum was at the shops, in the check out line once and some kids were making racist comments towards her. She responded by saying:

"I arrived in this country legally by plane. It was a Qantas. Your anchestors were probably forced to come here by boat!".

I should of just waved my Australian Passport everytime I had to deal with racist people.

They didn't know how to respond to that.

[identity profile] cynthia2015.livejournal.com 2016-02-16 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
My mum also had a miscarriage after me. A boy. My mum never grieved properly because there wasn't a proper burial.

I have a lot of cousins. A few I'm close to but there overseas so I don't see them often. I keep in touch by phone or text.

Whoever said words can never hurt you must of had a coping mechanism. I didn't. It's not until I look back on it as an adult that I realized those people who bullied me were pathetic. I wish I had known how to make some witty come back lines at the time. I don't know how I'd react if I ever saw those people again.

It was more political incorrect slurs. I was never tease for the color of my skin. My brother handled it better than me. The bullying stopped when we both grew up in our teen years. Bullies aren't so tough when you become bigger than them.

Thanks for your concern.:)

[identity profile] cynthia2015.livejournal.com 2016-02-17 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry. I just realized I typed the line about my Australian passport in the second last line instead of the actual last line. I hope I didn't confuse you.:(

That's what happens when I try to use the internet on my mobile instead of a laptop.

Putting that aside, I understand that bullying seems to be getting worser because of social media. I'm lucky that I grew up in an era before that at least. I'm been through depression but I was able to overcome that.

I didn't think I'd be sharing this much personal information about myself when I decided to get an LJ account but for some reason it feels like a natural progression for me. But I also don't want to make people feel uncomfortable about my issues.

I'm constantly taping the screen with my finger. Which is different to hands on keyboard.

Its not fair that no matter what, people are going to choose to be bad despite what environment they are in or what resources they have access to.

I guess those who do the right thing are a way of counterbalancing the situation.

I still think bad people are just getting more cowardly and devious because they can hide behind a computer screen.

Those who get harassed by sms at least have evidence.

Businesses have to keep upgrading their security because people will always try and steal from them.

Anyway. It is nice to be reminded that their are still decent people in the world. Just having someone to talk to means a lot to me.

As a political science major who is not working in a political science capability I learned years ago to bite my tongue. But I'm strongly in the Hillary camp.

[identity profile] a-phoenixdragon.livejournal.com 2016-02-10 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
What has happened to Obama...wow. I'm so proud of him.

Beyonce. Telling it like it is. Hells yes!!

I am not happy about the brouhaha over Hillary and her being a woman and the 'male-oriented' press' reaction to her campaign. That being said, I would love to have a woman as president. Just...not Hillary. Not fond of her centrist policies and some of the more dangerous ones she has implemented in the past and promises to make a reality in the future. She is a strong woman. One of conviction and one who truly believes in what she does. I just think she is too far removed from the reality we all live.

*HUGS*

[identity profile] a-phoenixdragon.livejournal.com 2016-02-11 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I meant that they are rough on him constantly. But he is polite, cool and does everything he is supposed to do (and then some), making them look like morons even when not saying anything at all. He has jabbed them with their words and yet has not once stooped to their level, or acknowledged their stupidity in the House. He has been an excellent president, a great leader and an inspiration.

True. But also great when they do it with style and grace.

Here I will agree to disagree. The Clintons (Hillary included) have done some very marvelous things. She is an excellent Senator. But I feel she would not make a good president. Personal opinion, though. I have reasons for it, but it takes too long to explain and I don't really want to start a hooraw in your ElJay.

[identity profile] a-phoenixdragon.livejournal.com 2016-02-12 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Tis all good..and I really need to read that book! :D

Aww, but your have every right to an opinion, your country or no. And we do need more diverse leaders, I heartily agree. I can only hope President Obama is the first in a long line...

[identity profile] a-phoenixdragon.livejournal.com 2016-02-14 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
*Beams* Hoping that one day, an Obama will be there for your country!

Likely because he spooks those in power. Hillary and Bernie do so here. Bernie is considered to not have a plan, but the media hardly bothers to find out what plans he does have, so no surprise there. No one knew who the man was ten months ago (except us grass rooters), so the brouhaha over him is gratifying and mystifying all at once. Hillary has solid plans, but some of them (even if implemented) will do little to change most of the status quo - though getting either candidates plans passed in the current congress is pretty much a fairy-dream. UGH.

Though with the passing of Anton Scalia (which...sounds ominous and rather terrible from what I've read of it - whether I like the man, or his policies, or not - I did not wish him illw ill), things are bound to get weird in the Senate. Exciting. But not in a good way, methinks!

Or how to defend oneself in the face of blatant unfairness without getting angry… :/ *sighs*
