So how did you like the new Doctor? I mean - how was your Christmas? *g*
Hello everybody! ::peaks out::
I know most of you've had a wonderful Christmas, just like me (disregarding the cold), and to those who had a horrible time I give many, many hugs - also you can come here next year! :)
I must also say many thank you's to
lillianmorgan for the beautiful calender (of New Zealand!) and to
kittyzams for the DVDs. ::smooches you both::
Have been spending the best part of the last 2 days at my in-laws, who are wonderful, wonderful people. I've no idea how I got so lucky. Lots of nice food, and board games, and TV-watching and general chat... mmmm, lazyness is gooooood! :) Christmas Eve we spent here, following my (Scandinavian) traditions, with a nice meal, followed by giving out presents. The children also got stockings the next morning, before getting their second lot of presents at the grandparents' after church. We have a mountain of new toys and goodness only knows where we'll put them all. I think there'll be a secret purge of their old stuff one day...
Oh and it snowed this morning! Yay!
But... what about The Christmas Invasion?
I've read a few posts, and I believe that I squeed over all the same things. And I *loved* the Lion King reference, the sword fight, the pajama wearing and the BIG button that must NEVER EVER be touched uder any circumstances!!! And all the other stuff to - so much goodness. But having had a little while to think about it, I actually have a few thoughts.
- To begin, the first half or so *did* drag a bit. Even with the evil santas and the killer Christmas tree, there was a big, Doctor shaped hole. And I'm sure this was very deliberate. Even those fans who didn't want a new Doctor, were probably yearning for him, by the time he appeared. It was sad to lose CE, but having him replaced with 'nothing' was a lot worse than adjusting to DT. ETA: I should probably point out that I've been squeeing ever since it was announced that DT was the new Doctor! I was all prepared for loving him. :)
- Then there was the new Doctor (and Oh how cool was it when he opened the doors to the Tardis? I *must* find an icon of that moment! The Doctor was in the house!) (or y'know, the space ship. Whatever). I loved the way he tried to figure out who he was now, because that's exactly what the audience was wondering too: What's the same? What's different? By the end of the episode we had a good few answers. And I liked very much that this incarnation gave Jackie a hug. I'm not sure the old one would have. (And she called him 'Sweetheart' - me thinks she fancies the new one too!)
- The baddies were suitably nasty and vicious (although f-i-l came in after about 15 mins and did his routine 'I'm clueless' act: "What's this? Doctor Woo? It's Chinese? Or a comedy? Hey - someone just died, I thought it was a comedy! Why did they just talk about cigarettes? [Sycorax]" He did shut up eventually though, since people kept telling him to. I love him though, but it's very typical, you just have to tell him he's being an idiot!) Um, not sure if there was a point I was going to make...
- About the whole 'Torchwood' thing, and the Prime Minister: I liked that she made the hard decision - leaders are like that, but she SHOULD be called on it. I think one reason The Doctor got so very angry, is because it hit very close to home. He needs to be fair, always. [insert long talk about The Time Lords and The Doctor's particular history, that I haven't got time to write]. And I think that the '6 word thing' wasn't so much a Tony Blair reference (although you can't escape that), but more a comment on how our society works now, and how we're all ruled by hear-say and 'leaked stories'.
- Lastly, it struck me how no-one really minds Rose stringing Mickey along. And if Buffy had ever done the same, people would have screamed blue murder (she gave Angel ONE kiss while she wasn't actually dating Spike, and look what happened).
I also LOVED that all The Doctor needed was a cup of tea! ::loves England::
That's all, I must go tend to the family - both the big girls now have my cold!
I *will* get round to answering comments at some point. Also sorry for any spelling mistakes, I don't have time to read it through properly.

And I trie dto leave a gap around the spoilers, I hope it worked.
I've often wondered about these traditions, but this way my children just get spoiled rotten twice! (And we don't get woken up at 4.30 in the morning!)
