Nostalgia

Have spent the best part of the last two days tidying up the younger girls' bedroom. Am winning, if v. tired. They have so much stuff. (Tidied Miss M's bedroom Saturday. She was very grateful, although wondering what I had done with all her things... *g*)

So anyway, I've been sitting here, watching Pond-era vids and missing them. (Disclaimer: I like Clara, I think the Ponds had a lovely exit and had run their course, but... oh I miss them. Might also have something to do with the Cherub watching the Angel two-parter this afternoon and everyone was so young!) The thing is, that apart from the Pond era being, well, an era (a golden era, even, when the Doctor had a family), then I love my characters broken and complicated - and Amy came pre-broken. Which of course wasn't nice for her, but made her an awful lot more interesting for me right from the start. I mean, I like Rose, but I never really identify with 'ordinary' characters. Although of course it's far better for the characters not to get completely screwed up...

Thought I might as well turn this into a reccing post.

Blue Caravan. This is probably my favourite Amy vid of all time.

Call Me Uprising. Also Amy, but very different feel. This one is all action.

Nara. No words can describe how beautiful this vid is.

Howl. Pondsssssss. ('If you could only see/the beast you've made of me')

Space Oddity. Doctor Who + David Bowie. Also (IMHO) the best S6 vid out there.

The World Is Not Enough. "And if you're strong enough, together we can take the world apart, my love...". River and the Doctor's relationship, across time and space. My OTP, and this is why.

{you only} ("The ultimate no-win, tragic love story." Steven Moffat. Also the most beautiful.)

Have also got two posts almost ready - a Clara theory, and one about all the layers in Doctor Who. Which I ought to polish off & finish, but... zzz.

ETA: Also many thanks to whoever left kudos on 'Dating' on AO3. You made my day, wonderful stranger! ♥ ♥ ♥

I am with you on the Pond's. For me they were a golden era- an era when The Doctor had an entire family and two companions who understood him a good deal more than he liked to admit! They also had a pretty stellar run of stories.

a friend from work just started watching Dr Who, and has breathless been giving me his opinion of which ever episode he's just watched. It's really kind of fun, and prompted me to rewatch the first three seasons (a couple episodes after work each evening). He just finished season two and Rose leaving Broke His Heart. "SHe comes back, right? Tell me she comes back!" It was just cute! I love Rose though so I may be a little biased.

You know, it's just occurred to me that one of the things I love best about the RTD era companions is that they are ordinary. "In the first 19 years of my life nothing ever happened to me. Nothing at all."

Because of course she is a little broken. She has serious father issues. MArtha and Donna had their issues too, and despite being ordinary people were able to reach into themselves and do extraordinary things. So much love for Rose, and Martha, and Micky, and Jack, and especially my beloved Donna!

And personally I'm really enjoying Clara so far!

Oh Clara is LOVELY. I just miss Amy being *difficult*. Because she was. *g*

And I really don't want to bash her, because I know you love her, but I'm excited to move to a new companion! though I'm sure I'll miss Rory madly!

And I didn't notice that it was Amy who wrote the book clara was discussing with one of her babysitting kids. Very clever!

UGHHHHHH, YES YES YES re: Amy. That is precisely why she's my favourite companion evarrrr. I honestly do love all of them, but Amy was just the most complex and gorgeously ~damaged, I MISS HER SO MUCH. Though I'm enjoying the Clara-Eleven too.

And there are some vids I haven't seen yet! \o/ Thanks for the links!

Wow! Thank you! Gorgeous videos.

I too miss the Ponds, I love the idea of a team TARDIS and they were so well-balanced together.
