Still snow. Oh and a prequel! :)

My garden really does resemble my icon. Except without the TARDIS and the reindeer. See below cut for evidence...

Also there is a PREQUEL to Bells of St John. See below second cut.

And - randomly - apparently it's Twitter's 7th anniversary. They made a video. Which - when set to the theme from Inception - makes it come across as if they're trying to destroy the world. (The Inception theme would probably have this effect on most things.) Still, if you're curious, go here.

Plus, allow me to recommend this Doctor/River vid: You Know My Name. (All Bond songs fit River!)

WE SAW CLARA'S MOTHER.
And we saw her as a kid. Like we see every meaningful girl Moffat makes the Doctor meet. Basically…
(BUT BESIDES I'M EXCITED.)

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-03-23 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
And she wasn't Jenny... Which would be difficult in the 21st Century anyway. *g*
Yep… I was a bit disappointed with that, partly because the theory really worked, and partly because now, we've actually had a glimpse of Clara's mum on screen… Feels a lot less mysterious—mind you, her looking like any ordinary mum absolutely doesn't mean that there's nothing going on about her in the plot.

I sort of... skipped past that
Good for you!

and straight to the fact that they were talking about remembering things.
Yeahhh, honeynoir pointed that out too and I thought it was a pretty good point. Still hoping for that Pandorica plothole to get fixed sometime… (Speaking of forgetting—I've been rewatching s5 and I just find it really weird that Amy has forgotten the Daleks, but we know they haven't fallen in the cracks because we find out in 5x03 what happened to them after Journey's End… I might be focusing on something unimportant, but really. The Daleks. The stolen earth. Why would Amy and only Amy have forgotten about that? Wasn't she supposed to forget about what the cracks took from her life, not other things? And I can't remember if it was mentioned again in the Moffat seasons—Adelaide remembered the Daleks for sure, but that was back in RTD's era so it can't account for Moffat's plots. Then again, there can't be something going on with the Daleks and the cracks because the Daleks haven't disappeared, they're all good and comfy on Skaro. They forgot the Doctor, but nobody forgot them… Oh, I should shut up. I'm bad at those things… XD)

Oswin's mum - or 'real Clara's' mother - might still be Jenny... There is still too much we don't know.
Indeed…

I graduated from the Buffy fandom.
That one is on my might-watch list… Not the only one, mind ;)

Why is it a duck pond if there are no ducks?
This.

I'm convinced that the crack ate the Daleks of the S4 finale
You do too :D I was totally thinking I was making no sense whatsoever, so it's good to hear you agree…

remember, the get erased and never existed, but the consequences (all the dead people etc) are still there. The Doctor's companions & other time travellers would still remember, and there might even be things left behind... like the Daleks from Victory of the Daleks. Which of course escaped and rebuilt the Dalek race. Also, it'd only be the STE/JE Daleks that were eaten, not all the others.
*nods along* Makes sense.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-03-25 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
whenever people are *happy* HORRIBLE THINGS ARE ABOUT TO HAPPEN!
*cackles* I like that…

Things that make no sense make no sense for a reason.
Liking that as well. Good philosophy ;)

Well it's possible that the crack just 'ate those memories', but it's so much more satisfying to think that the whole thing was just gobbled up by the crack. >:)
Definitely. I think I mentioned I was rewatching s5—and my head is /buzzing/ with incoherent thoughts and questions, about the "Doctor in the TARDIS" and thus the explosion and thus the Pandorica and prison themes, the Cyberking being eaten by the cracks too and what the hell were the cracks doing in Victorian London and is it the same time as Clara!Snowmen!time, why the TARDIS crashed in Amelia’s garden and why it crashed during regeneration in the first place and ALL THE STUFF!

(And I say that as someone who is very fond of the S4 finale! However, there are... flaws.)
I loved it, too…

Srsly, making sense out of things is one of my primary talents, along with finding ways of liking stuff everyone complains about.
That’s an interesting talent =) It’s always nice to see another perspective.

(It takes a lot to make me dislike something. A rare example is the episode 'Midnight', as well as all of 'Torchwood: Miracle Day' which was just a mess. Meh.)
Oh, I’d be curious to know what you hated so much about Midnight. Did the hysteria feel overdone to you, or was it something else?

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-03-27 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well don't say I didn't warn you when Joss stabs you in the back, jumps on hour heart and then laughs.
I’ll remember that… when I do watch Buffy, that is.

First of all - the Cyberking was around in 1851, The Snowmen takes place in 1892. :)
Thaaaaanks! I’m bad at being precise.

Mostly though, then when it comes to Moffat everything is connected. Whatever blew up the TARDIS back in S5, is the very same something that is behind everything else, pulling strings.
I sooooo want to believe that—but really, you’re right, it’s just so big. Everything in s5 revolves around the cracks in the universe, it’s just not possible that we won’t find out who caused them and how…

(Personal pet theories: Omega or the Valeyard.)
Had to look up those two, minimal old!Who knowledge and all—but that would be pretty interesting to see… It needs to be huge, so that much fits.

*grins* I just don't understand why people seem to get so much satisfaction out of complaining, rather than looking at what we actually have.
Well, one is always more demanding with what they really love. When something plain doesn’t convince you, it gets a bit hard to see the positive side of it… But indeed, it’s not like whining will magically change the canon material. XD

This was my review of the time although I also agree with most of this. Having since read The Writer's Tale, I understand it a bit better, including why I don't like it - it is the closest RTD ever gets to an episode of DW reflecting his own view of humanity, but that is a topic much greater than I have time for now. Mostly - it's bleak and unpleasant and should have been a Torchwood episode, not Doctor Who.
Okay, then. Those two reviews made pretty clever points… And I 100% agree about it being bleak—the change worked for me, though.

[identity profile] flowsoffire.livejournal.com 2013-03-30 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Only 144 episodes, what are you waiting for? *g*
Not like I also have 26 seasons of old!Who and a handful of other shows to pick from! ;)

Everything is connected.
*thrilled*

RTD had this belief that Torchwood could be anything, but I think he was wrong.
What could be /anything/? Of course it was his thing, he was proud of it and had ambition, but getting carried away is never good…

Also it was just badly written, and trying to do too many things. Which was a shame.
Ouch. Sounds like it.

Mind you, it shows how RTD was writing against his own instincts with Doctor Who, and you can see the struggle on screen, because everything gets more and more bleak as the show goes on...
Definitely. I like a bit of bleakness, personally, as long as he remains true to the spirit of the show…

But mostly he kept it on the right side, and Ten was always compelling, so I'm not complaining. :)
^____^ Always the bright side. I like.

Ugh, snow! It's too late in March for snow. I have decreed it, thus the world better freaking listen up. ;)

That is a cute prequel. A question: Little Clara sounds to my American ear like she's got a Northern accent? Does older Clara have the same accent?

[personal profile] eve11 2013-03-23 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw. Yeah, it wasn't crazy strong (Lucie Miller in the Eighta audios has a proper Northern accent too); it might be another slight regional thing that I keep hearing and thinking the vowels sounded different.

[personal profile] eve11 2013-03-23 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, makes sense. It was the way she said "Have you lost something? When I lose something, I go..." etc that twigged my ear.

Anyway I live in Pittsburgh so I deal with this. Played for laughs but I've definitely heard folks talk that way in real life.

Heh, her American accent is pretty good. Better than any attempt I would have at a Leeds accent!

No, I'm hearing it too. Certainly no expert on British accents, but I know JLC has a regional accent she drops for the role. On Craig Ferguson, she said she was from Blackpool. I wonder if they're duplicating their trick with Amy of employing a young relative to play little!Clara?

This is weird. Usually I'm the one who can't hear accents.

*snorfle* @ the Twitter history. I'm pretty sure footage of someone eating a bowl of Cheerios would look like the end of the world set to the Inception theme.

That really is quite a lot of snow for you people.

[identity profile] geekslave.livejournal.com 2013-03-23 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a lot of snow. I'm sure it's a hassle to deal with, but it does look pretty.

Snow! I love the treehouse ladder - snow makes such nice architectural features out of unexpected things.

There is the silliest Who preview in my paper today, going on and on about how this will be the series that we fully appreciate the fanciability of Matt Smith due to sexual tension between Clara and the Doctor. Ho hum.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2013-03-23 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It is very pretty... are you sure there isn't a reindeer and a Tardis tucked away somewhere?

AHHHHHHHHHHH MATT SMITH. WHY IS HE SO DEVASTATING.

Hullo, new to LJ. I adore your meta café.

I envy people with snow, we had so few this year...

I do find this prequel a little odd. I feel like Moffat has a habit of using soap tropes (the whole Rory/Doctor/Amy pseudo love triangle), only to rub his hands in glee when half the fandom acknowledges those questions and jumps in. He probably was aware of the questions aroused by the Mum's birthday line in Asylum of the Dalek. And I don't know, I feel he just threw her mother in the prequel to sidetrack the audience.
Also I hope the line about destiny was metaphorical, otherwise I'm gonna be a bit crossed witht the Moff.

Great vid!

[identity profile] eaweek.livejournal.com 2013-03-24 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice prequel! Matt works so well with kids. I love scenes that are just people sitting quietly and talking. Not that I don't love crazy action and things blowing up, but some of my fave Who scenes are just people talking.

Snow! LOL, we had some here on Tuesday--quite a lot, actually--much of it melted now. It was worse to our south, because it was mostly sleet and rain there, which promptly froze, so everything was a sheet of ice in Wednesday morning. There are times when it helps to be living in the boonies--we're far enough north to get proper snow instead of freezing wet slush.

OMG...that was SO. AWESOME. AND ADORABLE. AND AWESOME!!

*FAINTS*

And whoa...snow...

I'm mentally setting Doctor Who clips to Skyfall and generally nodding a lot at your Bond&River comment.

('I would never be me without the security of your loving arms' now is that just LKH or do we add falling into the TARDIS?)

[identity profile] mengu.livejournal.com 2013-03-27 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
There's one I found on Youtube with series 6 and 7 set to Skyfall but it was more about TAtM which just isn't what I needed. All the people should make one. Except people who can't vid, like me.
