Strong female characters.

Was sad that Martha lost out to Joan Watson in the Final Four (am sure Joan is a fine woman, but she's neither under-appreciated, not did she save the world all on her own), when it occurred to me that there's been an awful lot of women in FFM this time round.

Going back, I discovered that even Sweet Sixteen only had one male contender. The battles (when I've managed to skim a little) seem to have been mostly centering around 'My Strong Female Character is more awesome than yours!' - and just how awesome is that?

It goes all the way back to the first round. Someone on my flist was actually disappointed because there were only, like, four (I think? I forget the exact number) male characters after the prelims ended. It was pretty impressively female this year.

It was especially nice to see controversial/unpopular ladies getting voted up. Like Molly getting the vote for Sherlock and Martha getting it for Doctor Who.

What is this in reference to?

I get uncomfortable talking about who is most awesome of a bunch of awesome people, but it does warm my heart to see Watson in the final, and to see Martha make it so far, and to see a field of mostly female characters.

My "favorite" part is all the people complaining that there are "too many women" winning. That's a thing people were saying. Yep.

Anyway, really happy to see Martha taking it as far as she did. I love the remaining contenders so I'll be pleased with whatever result, really.

My votes were going for Martha and Britta, so I'm going into the final round somehow unexcited, but MARTHA GOT THIS FAR!! GO HER! And I think I'm voting for Joan because it would be nice to have a woman of color take it all, no offense meant to Hermione, who as a human-born witch is a minority in her own way.

I'm rather proud that women are being championed this FFM!! Would rather Martha got more love (as she has more than earned it), but if Joan is that well loved, who am I to argue? LOL!!
