It's time to decorate...
...and to panic about Christmas cards. (I'm hoping that by some miracle I'll get most of them done this weekend. It's not very likely, but I can hope, right?)

The Doctor is probably quite happy to kiss people (except Amy, 'cause he always saw her as a 7 year old), but if they put Clara on screen, kissing him, then it'd be awkward to later reveal that she's really his granddaughter - much like the Amy/River stories people wrote all turned squicky once we found out who River was.

LOL. Though, the amount of people, on tumblr and elsewhere, who are going "Ooooh- River's gonna be piiiiissed." has me thinking- how on earth are people thinking that those two are monogamous? O_o
IDEK- I'll just be over in a happy corner shipping Clara with River, because while I can see her flirting with the Doctor- it's easier imagining her with a crush on River.

In fact, there's a certain amount of canonical evidence that they're not, such as the Pond Life short with Mata Hari in it. (Incidentally, am I the only one who thinks that incident probably ended with Mata Hari, River, and an extremely trussed up Doctor? Who would find a very, very creative way to get back at River for it, of course—which might have been her plan all along.)
But, all that to the side, River knows him. Which means that she knows perfectly well that he gets accidentally engaged, and accidentally obsessed over, and accidentally who-knows-what. He'll swear up and down that none of it was actually his fault, it's all down to humans having emotions in various nonsensical directions. She's probably used to it. In fact, she's probably had to rescue him from a harem or two. I don't think a mere kiss would faze her in the slightest.

Either way, though, I'm convinced of several things: that the Doctor's relationship with Clara is going to be grandfatherly, that Clara's status/existence/species/temporal origin/whatever is going to be complicated, and that the Doctor's reaction to the kiss is going to include delightful amounts of awkward and flail.

And oh, I'm sure he'll be very grandfatherly (he's so old, bless him) - plus, going by the look on his face, he's definitely as shocked as he was when Amy kissed him.
Shall we just say that we suspect SHENANIGANS and leave it at that? ;)

We only see a tiny bit of the kiss. If it's just a big smacker on the lips (like he gave Rory in Dinosaurs) and is done in an amusing way rather than romantic interest way, then the theory still stands, because I think that would be "acceptable" if she turned out to be related. If it's a snog though, I think it rules out the theory for sure. :(
I think River and 11 are most likely polyamorous, so it doesn't bother me as a River/11 shipper at all. I can tell that i'm going to want to write Clara and 11, and will be tempted by Clara/11, but like promethia said...oh god what if i do it and then she turns out to be his granddaughter.

It's all very frustrating. Although it could be worked around, and the look on his face afterwards does tend to suggest that he's not even remotely considering her in that light.

Same here. To be honest I find it rather hilarious that anyone would think it'd upset River... (I've pretty much written Doctor/Marilyn/River and canon backs me up, so I consider it a moot point.)
