So, last night we watched the Olympic Flame arrive. Which was very neat and went very well and I felt kinda excited? It's sorta been on the horizon for so long that everyone's just got used to it, but it's getting close and yeah, I'm excited. Despite the weather. (Also Boris Johnson was funny. I might dislike his politics, but they asked him & David Beckham how everyone was seated in the plane - basically all the posher people up front - and Boris said: 'I was in seat 2B. Well - it was either that or not 2B'. *g*)

ETA: OK, so I went and found an icon...

ANYWAY, then I was listening to Radio 2 this morning and they played our Eurovision song (it's next weekend). It's Engelbert Humperdinck and... I like it? I mean, I think it's good. I can't remember the last time I thought that about one of our Eurovision songs. I'm fully expecting the End of the World any moment now:

Eurovision week. Can't wait. Ours is rubbish, Jedward again but the song is far weaker. Fully expecting to bomb, but sure that's half the fun.

Oh and cool about going to see the flame on the plane.

Well, as long as it's entertaining rubbish, I don't mind. Where would Eurovision be without the madness? (And I quite like Jedward, so I'm perfectly happy they're there again - guess it's a bit like that episode of Father Ted where the judges choose the worst song, because they can't afford to host the show again *g*)

And the whole Olympic Flame is winning me over. Will definitely go see it when it comes our way! (The girls are going with their school and will be dressed up in togas. Life is good.)

I remember last year we were all gathered round in my house to watch it and we were saying how we should all go next year. Then Azerbaijan won and it was all, "Eh, I'm not going to Baku." LOL

That Father Ted joke is about Ireland, we'd won it 3 years on the trot, then we entered the most atrocious dirge the fourth year, it was actually worse than monotone My Lovely Horse.

Now I have Dick Byrne's The Miracle is Mine in my head. :D Must watch that ep again in preparation!

Would you believe I just went to google a picture (of Zig and Zag, that is) and the one I clicked on turned out to be on a page on RTE2's site where they were talking about Jedward...

He was born in 1936 (I just found out). But Eurovision likes old geezers, so we might be in with a chance. (See the winner from 2000 - and I still hum that tune now and again. VERY catchy!)

When the Olympics were in . . . Salt Lake City? the flame came by two minutes away from my house, so naturally we went to see.

It was a lot like a guy running by with a bit of fire on the end of a stick and a bunch of folks standing around on the side of the road watching. I think there were police cars. And it was raining. But hay! /buzzkill

An alien invasion would have helped things. Nobody thought to repave *our* roads because the Olympic flame was coming by though.

I love that for two weeks everybody stops being sensible so they can stay up way past their bedtimes to watch men in unitards jumping around.

I doubt they'll do our roads either... Although I know they're going flat-out in London, so they'll probably be repaving there. (Read this article by A.A.Gill if you want to get a flavour. Money quote: On the bus recently a middle-aged, middle-class, middleweight woman peered out of the window at the stalled traffic and furiously bellowed; “Oh my God, is there no end to these improvements?”)
