The Voice (UK)

So, this afternoon I've been tidying the house, and I decided to have something on in the background. And, being curious, I thought I'd put on 'The Voice', just to see what it's like. And... I kinda love it?

It was the very beginning that really did it. The four coaches (Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue) were all on stage, performing 'I Gotta Feeling'. And it sounds really stupid (because it's not like it's not been mentioned in all the publicity/adverts), but it just struck me that they're all coming at it from the inside. They're all singers themselves, not producers/celebrities/actors/whatever, and not asking the people who audition to do anything they haven't done themselves. And yes, that makes a difference.

Then, there's also the fact that clearly those who audition have been carefully screened beforehand. There are no deluded idiots for us to laugh or sneer at. It takes people seriously.

Mostly though - and this is why you should watch it - it's just so much FUN. The coaches have a fabulous rapport. And if a singer has been chosen by more than one of them, they fight like mad to get the auditionee (totally a word) on THEIR team, and it's hysterical. Especially because Will.i.am and Tom Jones name drop LIKE CRAZY. ('So, I was recording this thing with Michael Jackson...'/'So, there was this time I went to see Elvis...') They could market it as comedy, I swear.

Although to be fair, it's got Tom Jones (Sir Tom Jones, sorry), and that's really all the reason you need... But just in case, here's Samuel Buttery. Because he's ADORABLE! And his name is BUTTERY. <3

Sounds like they've managed to recreate all the things I love about the US version. Such a fun show!
